Just looking for some answers and hoping to share experiences

Hi Everybody-

I'm not a big forum user (at all) so this is going to be interesting, to say the least. I've been seeing therapists and taking meds for various psychiatric conditions for about 20 years and never been diagnosed with Asberger's or HFA, but I've been looking through symptoms and a little light bulb has come on in my head...thinking that I might be on to something. Like the title says, I'm hoping to find some answers and maybe find some help with coping skills that have worked for others in the forum.

Looking forward to being part of the group!

John

List what you can’t cope with. you'll go viral. And yes many of us are developing some coping mechanism and using avoidance for some symptoms.

This is the only forum I use.
Just started after I got my diagnosis a couple of years ago.
I also had other diagnosis' mostly anxiety and panic disorder since age 13.
But after the loss of my home and only family I found a social worker I was working with for prolonged
grief that started seeing traits of HFA that no one else had ever noticed.
She suggested seeing a psychologist for testing and the rest is history.
I've learned to understand myself like never before.
Haven't found much help, but, just knowing and understanding myself helps some.

I have found that too Susan. I only use this forum and just started. I haven’t been diagnosed officially, many have guessed at me. Some doctors and psychiatrists are refusing to use labels even. But like you I lost my economic status. I remember panic and axiety since a toddler. I don’t use meds for it though.

I too have just joined this forum ( my first) I have my suspicions about myself but I am now too old and have spent too many years masking that I would probably jist appear quirky to most.
The interesting part for me was that you were 13 and diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder. I have a 13 year old daughter and having a 19 year old boy with Asperger's, I could see similarities.

Since she was 8 I have argued with many professionals with little help given. But at 13 it became so much harder , which I put down to puberty as well. She cannot cope with high school and has now been diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder . Her attendance is zero except for a couple of afternoons when I persuaded them to put her in a separate room.

A friend and professional has now said she can see that my daughters main trait is sensory perception disorder but I am still to get a diagnosis. It all makes sense now and i would suggest looking into that area.

I knew crowds were hard for her, clothes hurt, she had obsessive food likes and dislikes, always covered her body and her safe place was always with lots of pillows and a big soft blanket but I didn't realise the full extent of why and I have learnt a lot about why she is anxious . Counselling hasn't helped because I believe it is part of her not a symptom. I do believe CBT may help and I am happy to chat to you about any of my experiences with my daughter. I would also welcome any advice myself. Keep researching and keep digging . J
