Oh yeah! It's a great song. The label originally wanted the Monkees to do that song. The group decided it was figuratively too sweet and nicey-nice for where they wanted to head "serious music." The producer became angry and said the Monkees only existed because the label had created them, and they could just as easily create a new group. So "The Archies" were made up just to do this song. The Monkees were sidelined after that and the band soon broke up because of a clash of egos.

They did make a great movie called Head, cowritten with Jack Nicholson, in 1968.
