There is 'no excuse' for Katie's comments

Katie Hopkins has been blasted by an autism group after she admitted her daughter is autistic, and she may too be "on the spectrum".

While Ambitious about Autism applauded Katie for opening up about her news, insisting it's opened up a world of support and network groups to her, it also insisted the possibility she has autism shouldn't be used as an excuse for her to be "nasty" or her "lack of empathy".

Katie's recent revelation came two months after she branded a nine-year-old autistic girl a "t***".

Following the incident in May, the NAS offered to help Katie "understand autism" by inviting her to meet its members.

Katie Hopkins has been praised and blasted

The motormouth - who has three kids, Maximillian, Poppy and India - has since revealed in The Guardian that one of her daughters has autism.

When asked by the publication if she herself lies on the autism spectrum, she replied: “One of my daughters is diagnosed as being on the spectrum.

She had previously admitted she too is "definitely on the spectrum".

But while it's a confident admission, the parent-led group Ambitious about Autism made it clear it was no excuse for her past comments.

Jolanta Lasota, Chief Executive at Ambitious about Autism, explained that lack of empathy is a common myth about autism, telling us: "Identifying as being on the spectrum can be a liberating and reassuring feeling as it can help to identify why you might think in the way that you do and to feel part of a collective, which can be very comforting realisation.

"It can also mean more access to vital support and new network groups to identify with. If this is the case for Katie Hopkins, that is great.

"However, it is important to note that autism is not the answer to a lack of empathy, nor is it to be used as an excuse for being nasty to others.

"What people with autism struggle with is fitting their feelings of sympathy and caring into everyday interactions.

"People with autism can actually be very compassionate and care deeply about others - in fact, the clarity of vision that autism sometimes gives mean that some people with autism are about the most principled and socially conscious people you'll ever meet."

Praise from the NAS for Katie

It comes after the National Autistic Society (NAS) praised Katie for her interview about her autistic daughter.

Following the incident in May, the NAS offered to help Katie "understand autism" by inviting her to meet its members.

And after learning of Katie's latest revelation, the organisation has invited her once again to meet its members and now share her experience.

Carol Povey, Director of the Centre for Autism at the National Autistic Society (NAS), said: "We're pleased that Katie Hopkins has now shared the fact that one of her children is on the autism spectrum."

To be blunt, she is a pompous arse that loves tabloid attention - glorified paparazzi at it's worst. IMHO

While I wouldn't deny her or her family any assistance they might need and, won't deny that she and her daughter may be on the spectrum, she has made a career of negative sensationalism. I'm sure it's an act, her facade of success and, that's fine but - lets see the real Katie not all of the usual bluster and negativity.

I make no judgement about her as a person, no one has seen that but, I do judge the image she shows the world as a bad one, one I dislike and disagree with.

I don't know who she is or most famous people for that matter. I googled her though :P I wonder why a newspaper would publish that kind of bullying. I have read that for a lot of people their behavior on social media can have an effect on their employment.

Katie Hopkins is a sensationalistic "reporter," and i use the term loosely, for the Sun, a tabloid, rag mag, whatever you want to call the Sun, National Inquirer and the like. her career depends on sensational, controversial reports, creating media wars and scandals. She's succeeded at our expense this time.

Ignore her, she may very well be a sweet lady privately but, her job is to cause a fuss at someone's expense. Happened to be us this time, probably because we came to her attention via her daughter's diagnosis.

Shall I go round up a boy band or two to pose in flesh tone jumpsuits with? That would get her off Autism and on to "Cougar has harem of famous, young boys." LOL. Maybe a fake medical record that I was born without a vagina - I'm sure she'd attack that too. LOL.

Just tabloid BS, business as usual for them - no reason for any of us to get bent out of shape over it, the sooner she's ignored, the sooner she will have to find someone else to insult. *insert giant eye roll here*

Well at least she finally got a photo that reflects her personality: blockheaded. Although I suspect the last two photos are photoshopped to change her clothes and the background, because her hair matches too perfectly between them. Either that or she really needs to ease up on the hairspray!

And the makeup and air brush work on the "blockhead" shot is absolutely stunning. Katie you look fabulous darling. [and my facade is showing big time.] :P

Just for comparison.

She looks like one of us redneck mommas! Although we won't claim her because even us rednecks have standards of behaviour and she doesn't meet them.

Ms Hopkins found "fame" on UK TV's The Apprentice & recently described migrants trying to reach European shores from north Africa "cockroaches" in a UK newspaper. I was a bit surprised, I thought there were laws against inciting racial hatred in this country but publications like The Sun & Daily Mail appear to flout them regularly in their low-grade high-octane hate-speech outputs. I would have thought too, that being a minor, K.H.'s child would be data-protected against public disclosure of AS?? The mother does appear to be a driven individual prone to blurting, from what I have seen.

Katie Hopkins the woman who said treating dementia patients is a waste of hospital beds . She in my eyes is what's wrong with the world some one who loves attention so much she does not care who she hurts to get some , She lives a wealthy lifestyle but at what cost ? A truely narcissistic down right horrible person with children who may look up to her while she spits her factually incorrect and disgusting comments.Once the media stop printing or following her "work" then I'm afraid she will go on to hurt many more people without truely understanding what bad she has done.I hope that pay check is worth it Katie.

Oh she knows what she's doing, she's getting attention and selling that tabloid. Drama queens, gossip mongers and wanna be divas eat that stuff up. Most sensible people ignore it.

I'd never quit worrying over some of my high profile friends if I put any stock in what rag mags print - someone is always cheating on their partner, someone else is doing drugs, he's been dropped from his label, she's been replaced for that role, so and so is dying of this or that horrible disease, hot shot whoever was caught kicking a dog and, this or that group is a waste of air for this or that reason.

PLEASE just trash talk, sensationalism, lies and, the "reporters" like Katie Hopkins don't believe what they print any more than the rest of us. It sells, they invent it and print it. Truth, compassion nor any other virtue means nothing to the publishers of those tabloids. Sweet, nice, complimentary journalism doesn't sell nearly as well has rumors, lies, gossip and hate mongering.

People remember who Katie Hopkins is because of all of the rude, crude and outright vicious things she says and prints and, will remember her stories long after she retires. No one remembers feel good stories for long but, we all remember the painful, angry and, otherwise negative stories and, the backlash they create.

You wouldn't remember that I donated money to three children's charities last year for long, even if that did make the news but, if photos supposedly showing me performing sexual favors for a high profile producer were printed, you'd remember that. You'd remember it even longer if I denied it publicly, and almost forever if I sued the reporter and/or publication for printing the lies.

Even if you didn't believe the scandal, you would remember what publication broke the story and started the whole mess for a very long time. That's how rag mags work. The less reaction those garbage stories get from whomever they tried to drag into the BS, the sooner it's forgotten.

Interesting but, I could tear everything she said in that article apart in the light of what a PR team would tell someone in her position. Never know if her answers are from the heart or PR because odds are she informed her people of the impending interviews before she ever agreed to talk.

Sure it's good press to calm a few people and make them think twice about their opinion of her and, keep them from writing her off and ignoring her quite so quickly - good press to keep selling the Sun with her still working for them but, is it real or just a PR smoke screen?

Given that she has made no effort to show a kinder or gentler side since then, I would say that is more smoke screen than anything and, as such, business as usual.

You forgot the gay people! If you're not dead, dying, cheating, drunk, high, in rehab, getting laid, getting a baby, or getting divorced, then you're gay.

About the only times I pay attention to gossip magazines is if somebody I was fond of died and I hadn't heard of it yet. And then I stop there because that's when all the "ghost scandals" begin. More like "rest in pieces" than "rest in peace".
