Keeping up with the latest trends

I feel left out if I can't keep up with the latest trends. I've bought countless DVD sets and video games to see what I missed as a kid (they're all awesome), except that I watched several Alex Mack episodes one night after I heard about that fad and wanted to get it over with (the show was all right, except that I tend to treat DVD sets like "assignments" since otherwise I view them as a waste of money if they just sit there). I barely watch Big Bang even though my parents watch the new episodes every Thursday (I even turned down an offer to save the episode only to want to watch it today). It's a good show, though. I watched a few episodes of Dr. Who. With both I can't seem to get into the mood (it happens with a lot of things often). I watched, um, MLP for awhile but got horribly sick of the morals and resisting the compulsion to ask "what is friendship" during the intro (honestly). I even follow four sports teams but can't sit still during the games unless I'm in control of the remote. I also need major breaks (often fifteen minutes or more). I also tend to act like a commentator during everything when I am in the mood. I also watch reviews of games and let's plays and feel bad that I have like a hundred games, most of which I've never finished despite enjoying them greatly.

Hmmm, the only consequence of this I can see is that you will always be following the latest trends and not doing what you might enjoy yourself better? As a kid of the 80s, I remember things, but missed loads of stuff too. For me, I remember getting some luminous green and yellow socks! They were all the rage one year, and I thought they were great. I still do actually, I suppose if I ever see some again I'd get them!! :D

As for tv, I haven't got one anymore, and life is infinitely better without. I'd only be interested in nature documentaries anyway, as I don't do the people thing ;)

I think I can see that maybe you haven't latched onto something of your own and think you are missing out on something? I seriously doubt you are. Life's too short to be a couch potato :)

I don't even know what the latest trends are. Nor do I care. I find the entire concept of trends ridiculous. It's like everybody is sending some coded message to each other saying "Okay, this isn't cool anymore."

That game you mentioned in the sixties reminded me of Skip-It.

I guess the mass media bombards you with the "latest hit" (whatever) a lot more than it used to. That, and I'm friends with several homelanders.

Agreed, TV is pure poison, especially the commercials. They are all used to introduce fear into the lives of citizens. I only watch what I want on the computer without these horrible commercials.

Who wants a dumb half dressed flusie ghosting around in a stupid commercial when all I want to watch is a good tennis game.

Let it be known the commercials are full of these flusies and they disgust me, a disgrace to my gender.

I've never been interested in trends. I don't understand them. What makes something 'cool' and something not? And it's exactly like Buckyboy said: it's like everyone's getting a secret message that I'm not.

I don't bother with trends in the sense that it's the thing people do right now.

I might get into certain things because it's available right now. That's probably just the easy way for me.

What's worth noting for someone like me who watches quite a few movies, tv shows, plays some more recent videogames and more of that nature. A day does not have enough hours to get involved in it all. In between gaming, comics, hobbies and the few tv shows and movies I watch, I still have 24 hours a day (of which a few are dedicated to sleep in general). Because of internet and social media it seems that there are more trends and "things you have to watch" than most people have spare time to allocate for. This applies to physical things as well; Anything from fashion to the latest trends in cuisine... time in this sense is quite finite... as is money (to most). It's impossible to get along with every trend... if you're even inclined to get involved in them. If you're into stuff that's not "the flavor of the week" you'll find yourself short pressed on time for sure.

If anything I wouldn't worry as much when it comes to trends. Even here, I'd advise anyone to dance to the beat of your their drum. The fact that a current program on television is popular is fine, but it shouldn't dictate your life to what you should be doing with your time right now.

Hah, someone told me a couple years ago I dress like I'm in the '90s. I had no idea, I just wear what I think looks OK and fits right. I haven't changed my style much but it was amusing to hear that.
