Kindness

I often comment on this forum about "social rules" - the fact that I don't know all the social rules that NT's seem to naturally understand without even thinking about it. So, I've had to figure out the rules myself.

The only rule that I've found that works in all circumstances, all occasions, and all cases is: Be Kind.

I like to be kind, it's a rewarding approach that feels good, and makes others feel good too, often. However I do think some people struggle to achieve this, and may end up being a bit overbearing or bossy. But it's a good aim I would say.

I am not sure if this is what the op meant, but I think being kind is more active than being nice. And maybe, more specific and based on observation of what may be helpful for the person. Being nice, I might say ' I hope you have a nice day' and being kind I might say, 'you have been working so hard this week, you really deserve a great day out!' .

OK.
I'll be kind to the next gang-stalker that comes my way. :D

What's the difference?

Kindness is a virtue, niceness, while not a sin (in and of itself that is) isn't a virtue either.

I think the difference is that kindness actually requires something of you. Being "nice" is really just rhetoric.

Kindness is helping another person who has been victimized, knowing what it was like yourself.

I agree that honesty is a quality of kindness. Context matters, but I find directness kind, because it saves me from having to interpret. "You have spinach in your teeth" is kind, in my opinion. And "It's my turn to talk" is also kind.

I'm kind of hot, is another type of "kind".

BTW, Why does it say I joined Jul 8, 2020.
I was a member long before that.
