I can no longer take a high dose of gabapentin because of the gastritis, so we're doing another approach to my anxiety. I just wanted to know other's experience with Lexapro. I imagine at least one person here has been on it. I started on 5mg then when I went to 10mg, it caused extreme anxiety so I'm back on 5mg and we're going to try 10mg again in a few weeks. I've never treated my anxiety with an SSRI before, I've always used fast-acting medications, so I'm hoping it's worth all the time it takes.

Good luck with this. I thought l needed to get a script but l am back to running again. And l cut back on anything that isn't done in moderation like eating entire bag of chocolate kisses. Does this happen in one week or 2 weeks to take effect?

Chocolate kisses, who makes them!? They sound yummy.

A friend has Fluoxetin, this it's 20mg x 2 daily and finds that helpful.

I am on 20 mg of Lexapro (for depression) and Klonopin for anxiety. Lexapro has helped me a lot for depression. However, I can’t give a fair assessment of Lexapro for anxiety since I am taking Klonopin as well.

Over the winter I started having severe anxiety attacks due to a life-changing event. So my doctor increased my dosage of Klonopin. Klonopin works, but it has many drawbacks. I am concerned about developing a tolerance to it. I was initially on 3 X 0.5 mg per day, and now I am on 3 X 1 mg per day. Plus, drugs like Klonopin (benzodiazepines) are intended for short term use.

What I found that helped me a lot is vigorous daily physical exercise. I am now at 40 min per day on an elliptical and it really works! I highly recommend it!!! It is difficult to get started at first, but it gets much better once you develop a routine. For me it’s the first thing that I do when I get up in the morning. Now, I can’t start my day without exercising.

I have been told a million times to exercise, but I ignored it - I can be stubborn at times. When my blood pressure got out of control, I was told to start exercising. I was frightened to hear that I was going to suffer a severe stroke. It was this threat that served as the impetus to start exercising. It was after I had started exercising that I have noticed a big improvement in my depression and anxiety. Now I am hoping to reduce my dose of Klonopin.

I wish that I could provide you with more information about Lexapro for anxiety. I know it works well for depression. But vigorous exercise definitely works! I hope this helps.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time. A friend of mine was just prescribed Lexapro for severe clinical depression. He is taking a liquid form of it rather than pills so perhaps liquid is easier on the stomach than pills. Might be worthwhile to ask your doctor about that.

I took Klonopin for anxiety for a half year then quit. But l was on a very low dosage. I found l was able to manage after that. I took another drug that made me smile all the time until l ended up almost dead from it. It was prescribed for anxiety. Good look @Fino, hope you find relief for this.:)

One of my clients is on Lexapro for anxiety and is doing quite well. He is also taking a non-stimulant ADHD drug which is a confounding factor.

Re chocolate kisses, I read they are made by Hersheys, and they contain butyric acid, "which to those used European chocolate could taste like vomit". Not gonna try those...

Re Anxiety, running seems like a really healthy alternative, or other exercise, my friend does a good amount of exercise, walking and gardening and manual tasks, think that helps too.

I seem to be in a minority based on other responses. I have been taking 10 mg Lexapro /Escitalopram for anxiety for almost three years, and have not had any adverse effects. A few weeks ago I began having gallstone problems, and the pain was so severe I thought I was having heart attacks. While this was going on I doubled the dose, and this helped with anxiety until I could get the gallbladder removed.

At night I take 25 mg Doxepin and Theanine for sensory issues and anxiety.

That's great you have had good luck with it @Rasputin. I probably will get a prescription next year because l think my anxiety is getting worse. Prozac l believe is similar?
