losing my grip

for a long time now i've had problems when i become tired in that i say things that i would normally never say and are normally crude and sometimes hurtful. i've managed to keep this under control (thou by no means without consiquence) by sleeping a lot. the problem is that every so often something happens, my mind's equivilent of breaks cut out and it freewheels, i start jittering asthou i've had too much caffeine, i start talking tomyself, repeating words to myself, cant settle down, often i get an idea or something i HAVE to do it my head and i can't not do it.

one such incident i ended up at my local tesco supermarket at 3 in the morning, it being closed and coming to, realizing im in the car park.

such an event happened to me last night(i tried to put a similar thread on this website to ask for advice but it seems to have failed to be added so if you see a second post with the same title let me know so i can delete it) if anyone else gest these and knows how to stop them i'd be greatful to learn how...thankyou

Hey I'm new here and probably making too many comments, but I know how you feel. This has happened to me too- I never knew that was something I could have in common with someone. For me, looking back, I think it's been unhappiness. Like, I needed not to just rest, but to feel warm, happy feelings. Like I needed to have fun and laugh, or lie down in the sunny grass (that's my thing, I dunno about you) and think about how nice it feels and smile. Even watch a funny movie, though in Dr. Archibald Hart's book Thrilled to Death too much media/internet/video games (and for me, reading informational books) can be over stimulating and make us worse, even though we feel like that's what we want to do. So we need to do real life stuff. Sing, paint, go for walks and enjoy the scenery, swim, hold somebody's hand, play with a kid. He says we may not feel it at first, but good feelings will come if we slow down and enjoy. I'd love to know if you try this and it actually helps.

kchapman1988 - I have some issues with saying stupid things and being extra clumsy when I am tired too. In my experience, more sleep makes me feel tired. Based on what I have read (and from personal experience), it seems that you may have anxiety and/or depression issues. I am not a professional so I do not know, but I suggest seeing a doctor.

Agree with you that too much sensory stimuli makes us feel worse. This whole internet/media thing has definitely decreased the attention span of many, many people. I also feel overwhelmed sometimes and need to disconnect. So yes, slowing down helps a lot.

given my own issues with this i feel i have to ask others on here about this, does anyone else have issues with managing your body temp? from what i've read people with aspergers feel more comfortable with heavy blankets and even heavy clothes as they find the weighted feeling to be relaxing, for me even when its freezing i feel too cold before i fall asleep but wake up hot and haveing sweated a great deal( yes it IS sweat)

it may be similar to my being very sensitive to spice and sound.....

At the risk of sounding ridiculously practical, I grew up in a cold climate where heavy clothes and blankets are a fact of life. Everyone wears layers and adjusts them as needed when too hot or cold. It's considered okay. The experience of being cold then hot is one that I have but I never thought much about it. I just pile on blankets or peel them off. Perhaps you are experiencing the same thing but in a very extreme way? It must be uncomfortable for you!

It’s odd you mention this now as I have been thinking about this for the last week actually.

I have recently gone back to wearing a beanie to bed, pulled down over my face. I also have two doonas on me but wake up with them on the floor.

I just thought my internal thermostat was broken because I can happily get around in shorts and t-shirt in the middle of winter and people look at me like the party bus stopped at crazy town and picked up only me. I have always had my own personal relationship to weather but then, I am sensible enough to know things which are not obvious to everyone, that have helped me in this regard... IE;

On a cold day drink cold drinks and take a cool shower/ bath, in opposition, on hot days drink warm drinks and have a hot shower/ bath. This from a doctor on the news talking about heatstroke and hypothermia, it makes you internal and external temperatures match and reduces the risk of overheating or freezing.
Maybe I should Wikipedia this to verify?

Anyway, I follow my body, if my body says I am cold on a screaming hot day I will rug up, screw fashion ; ]

the problem i was trying to explain is regardless of how warm i am before i fall asleep i often wake up having sweated throught my bedding, it may be i've been unable to 'understand what my body is telling me' yes it is uncomfortable.

to gomendosi,

i guess im not in touch with my body (as much as that sounds like a double entendre) i always seem to want to do the opposite of what needs doing (like the cold drink or cold day ect.) i seriously need a full body work-up and a minder
