Made a choice on Friday, having a hysterectomy done next month.Husband was with me for support and he is 100% supportive of me having this done.We talked about it after I found out I have the gene for ovarian cancer and he was on for support.I am having this done for preventive reasons, lost 2 aunts to ovarian cancer. My mom had hers done at age 50 for preventive reasons and does not regret it.We seen a specialist on this and told me this is the best option for me.At 44 years old,I have my life ahead of me.Hisband will be there for support on surgery day

I hope you have a speedy recovery. My sister discovered she had both of the BRCA genes, but did not discover that fact until she was already being treated for ovarian when she was in her late 60s. She was on me to get tested a year or 2 before her death, but I figure if I have not had any problems thus far at 77, I am ignoring it, as I figure I received a better mix from my mother and father. Besides, I have issues with hospitals and major surgery (some PTSD from 10 years ago), even after watching what chemo did to my sister.

I applaud your choice and I wish you a long cancer free life.

Women with Jewish Heritage are almost guaranteed to have BRCA genes, but luckily, when I was tested, I was found to not carry the BRCA gene. Even though I've been through cancer, it is an indescribable relief to know that I do not carry the genes for the most common form of breast cancer. Especially since my grandmother had metastisized breast cancer.

Good luck.

Are you going to do it abominally or will it be a DaVinci laproscopic surgery?
