I been watching a lot of crime shows recently

Learned a lot of things

I admire those criminals, how smart they are, how far they can go and how much money they made

Growing up I was addicted to this type of films, still do

It’s fun watching somebody shoot up a store and find a way to escape

Masterminds was a true crime documentary television series produced in Canada with truTV (formerly Court TV). Each 30 minute episode features one true property crime story. The profiled property crimes generally involve large sums of cash or merchandise and, more important, extremely unusual and/or elaborate methods of criminal operation which were never before (and sometimes never since) seen by law enforcement agencies. With a few notable exceptions, most criminals profiled in this series were caught within a couple of years of committing their crime(s).

It’s one of the best series out there

I love watching every minute of it

Keep in mind that the vast majority of the people on those shows were caught and imprisoned. So not as smart as it might seem. And the money they 'made' belonged to other people.

They did

That’s why it’s important to stay grounded. Most of them got caught because they let their egos get the best of them
They run out of money eventually. Every time they go out, they are at risk for getting caught again, or inadvertently leaving behind physical evidence.

The Golden State Killer had been a cop and thought he knew how to cover his tracks, but forensic science improved at an unforeseeable rate.

I like watching such shows to see said advancements in forensic techniques.

You admire criminals? That's disturbing.

I still recall watching those series of tv shows on the stupidity of criminals. But then instead of actors, they were documenting real perpetrators who just couldn't seem to do much of anything right.

Not so amusing was to see how they all fare in prison with lengthy sentences. Not a place I'd want to live.

Reality tends to paint a very different picture of criminals compared to Hollywood.

As an engineer, I admire their* ingenuity. That is the draw of heist films.
Even Jesus applauded a hypothetical con man. [Luke 16:1-8]
(I do not endorse their objective, however.)
I also commend the ingenuity of the police who foil their plots.

*That is, property criminals.

There was once plans for a TV show about a prison where criminals came and went as they pleased. But its producer felt that its criminal protagonists would not be sympathetic to the viewing audience.

It was retooled to become Hogan's Heroes.
