Math Problem : A trouble shared is a trouble halved.

A trouble shared is a trouble halved.

The problem : There is a vast difference between the owner of the trouble and the recipient of the trouble through the sharing process.
The owner of the trouble can feel a big relief through sharing - 50%
But the receiver of the trouble share does not take on the equal weight of the trouble.

Let me explain.

For the trouble owner :
I have assumed all troubles are equal
One trouble is defined as big enough to cause problems with day to day living
For the purposes of calculation :The maximum is ten troubles .
Problems deteriorate over time.
One trouble disappearing every ten days.

For the trouble received in sharing :

For every trouble received through sharing the recipient takes on an effective value of 10% of one trouble.

The received trouble expires after 1 days.

Thus, you are able to take on 100 of other people's troubles before reaching capacity.
Your trouble capacity also reduces more quickly over time.

While the trouble owner (TO) a trouble is halved in sharing.

For the trouble receiver they only received 10% of the value of one trouble.

If I had one trouble, and someone told me their trouble,
I would only have 1.1 troubles.
Nowhere near trouble capacity.

So,more accurately ,when troubles are shared :
One trouble becomes 50% in the trouble giver
10% in the trouble receiver.

To update the well known phrase :

For every trouble shared 40% of the trouble goes missing.

So between trouble share and trouble receiver - where does the missing amount of trouble go?

Have I discovered dark matter?

Is it the troubles that go missing when shared?

Or perhaps it isn't dark matter after all.

Perhaps It just doesn't matter.
:)

Now don't spoil it by arguing about individual trouble variance.

That always happens.

This troubles me...care to share the trouble?

Although the burden of trouble may be
less heavy for one, the fact of the matter is that now
more people than ever have trouble.

This troubles me...care to share the trouble?

This is proof my trouble is already reduced,
It seems you have also received a full trouble.

This must be the trouble sharing rule paradox.
When the trouble rule is shared it can result in the transfer of one full trouble.

I think a trouble shared is more like trouble sexual reproduction.

The original person still has the whole trouble but now you the sharer have a (at least emotional) spawn of the trouble.

Best euphemism ever for a kid ...

Troublespawn.

No, I feel you are mistaken...I want you to share my trouble, so you just got more weight to carry and mine was reduced.

Well you got one extra trouble
Shared it
It got halved .
But it's an extra half trouble for your trouble.
I
Igot 10% of your trouble for my trouble.

Perhaps using the expression 'for your trouble ' which has a different context,
That troubles me.
Does it trouble you?

No, it only sounds like government math.
Impossible to figure out and possibly getting shafted for being in the wrong place at the right time.

I've got more important things to fret over other than total nonsense, so count me out.

If one is a certified counsellor or indeed a wise helper one may be able to elude even the 10% due to one's training or experience in not taking Troubles home. So others can share and get the 50% trouble reduction without any of the trouble landing on another person. It's a win win alright. There's a financial cost issue I guess for using a therapist or counsellor but friends and wise helpers don't usually charge a fee. Reciprocity may be appreciated.

So I was thinking
It's really the act of sharing your troubles that halves the trouble, not necessarily the number of people you share it with. We can call this idea sharing sessions. In a sharing session, any number of people can be recipients of your sharing but you'd still receive the same 50% reduction by the end of it. However, just as well the act of receiving troubles by hearing about them shouldn't change either, so each member of your audience would receive the same 10% increase in troubles.
There have been six people in this thread (including me) that have received your trouble about troubles, each of whom should have increased our troubles by .1 troubles, while yours has gone down to .5 troubles. So you now have .5 trouble-related-troubles, each of us six (at least) have .1 trouble-related-troubles. If added together we have your .5 and our .6 trouble-related-troubles. Which nets us a 1.1 trouble-related-troubles that we know of.
So the way I see it now, rather than wondering where 40% went, the question is: where did the extra .1 come from?

Also,
With your rate of trouble decay of 1 trouble vanishing in 10 days, that makes each trouble decay at .1 trouble/day, or .0042 troubles/hour, or .000069 troubles/minute, or .0000012 troubles/second.
And since sharing troubles halves it, and troubles can be described as real numbers, you could share your troubles in an infinite number of sharing sessions and you'd still never get your troubles to zero.
But I figured out that to get your troubles to dissipate in one day you'd need to share with 4 people, to get your troubles to dissipate in one hour you'd need to share with 8 people, and to get your troubles to dissipate in one second you'd need to share with 20 people.
But also, sharing with 20 people would put out at least 20 copies of .1 troubles, which adds up to 2 troubles. Twice the amount of troubles you started with would be put into the world and would you really want that kind of blood on your hands?

Something troubling you? Got a bone to pick ? Everything going to the dogs?

Admittedly on occasion things just don't add up.

I agree with the 'double trouble' theory, that if you share a trouble, what you are actually doing is making a copy of it so it is doubled - your trouble also becomes somebody else's trouble.

But troubles also have weight, and what actually does halve is the weight of the copy of the trouble. The copy of the trouble passed on, the copy, is a lot lighter than your copy, and the more it gets passed around, the more copies are made, the more it gets diluted in direct proportion to the number of people it has reached until it becomes like a ghost, with little weight and little potency (edit: for them it has little potency, but not for you: for you, it has the same original weight).

Are we stumbling into the apocalypse?

The system was obviously designed for sharing to one person with a natural time for decay.

But with the modern media, are Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Phil....
Destroying the world?

Not to much Rick Astley whose troubling song Never gonna give you up has been seen squidzillion times.

Several million people watch Dr Phil every day, there's at least 5 troubles per program.
If it was 5 million that would be 500,000 new troubles per day x 5

Dr Phil is responsible for 2.5 million new troubles per day.

The world's in trouble people.
