is it just me or are men no longer 'needed'? in a society that ran on physical strength thats our role, now we have machines we aren't required there, working to bring money home? physical stuff is covered by machines so what is left is mental work which women can do.

skillful crafts? women became skillful in place of strength, nimble in place of barging through. guys no longer 'need' to 'grow up' because there is no role they are specifically required for! 30 year old men acting like teenagers because there are no wars, no hard labor (heavy lifting jobs) fathers are no longer the font of knowledge they were once expected to be for their children. we have literally evolved ourselves into obsolescence !

Perhaps society has evolved itself into more equality instead. When men and women do the same things as human beings it's more of an equality thing I guess. The notion of gender roles has faded.

Maybe it's just me, but I always found it a bit weird that based on gender we have different roles. Why can't women be the font of knowledge for example?

30 year olds acting like teenagers is infact something I guess is true. Especially since there's no mandatory participation in the army (at least in The Netherlands), I think that "teenage behaviour" takes a lot longer for people to grow out of it because of this, some people take longer to become somewhat responsible. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, since society probably finds it's niche to make it work for people with such behaviour, but I do think there's a significant difference of behaviour which perhaps is also a reason why social norms and values are declining... but I don't know if that's just a men's thing.

i guess its because i prefer the idea of there being guidelines like 'you want to do THIS job so you'll need to do these courses to do THESE courses' or in this case 'men are naturally more predisposed to these things, women are naturally predisposed to these.'

actually having a natural purpose or skill set.....

I know plenty of men who excel at things other than physical strength, so I'm not sure that's relevant. I see both men and women who take a long time to grow up, anyway. Some of it is innocent things that are no longer considered purely for children like animated movies or videogames, and some of it is a general immaturity or lack of responsibility. I've heard numerous explanations that seem more plausible revolving around trends in parenting, vastly increased life expectancy, etc.

Something that I thought about earlier today in regards to this thread.

If genderroles are disappearing in employment for example, it does open up possibilities for men to look into more feminine fields of work. My mom worked as a seemstress for a while and she noted there werent any men around. That is different now. There's male make-up artists (and I'm not talking special effects stuff for movies; but actual "cosmetics specialists") and the list goes on for jobs that were held by females for a long while, maybe because they might have been more related to the female sex (as there's still is a bit of taboo of men wearing make-up for example).

I remember when I was in school for my social work courses, the school offered a lot of different courses there, yet the number of men on said institution was a big minority. Amongst other courses they offered courses to become a hairdresser (and the one male actually attending, was an outspoken homosexual. Which reinforced the stereotype of gay hairdressers), the courses for said cosmetics specialist studies were filled in with just females for example. So I guess that's some sort of indicator some fields of work are (or were) mostly feminine. That was about 10 years ago.

If females can take up male jobs (like construction for instance), why couldn't men take up women's professions?

Talking about old times, it seems that older people acting naive isn't anything new. All my life I've seen people of ages 40-60 act stupid, and for what I've heard as well as now, also 80 years ago old people disliked youngsters. So if that can't be just something significant trait of our generation, maybe it's a typical behavior pattern for humans in general.

I can't think how frightening it would feel to not to be able to display ones generic desires the way one would want to. But I hope not any man is forced to be any less of a man by demand. I hope this idea to be some sort of apophenia.
Traditional model of nuclear family might be fading - but still some pleasures of life that have their roots on typical masculinity or femininity, are deep rooted in us. At times when it feels that none wears stylish clothes like in 1920's, I am actually happy to know people that dress up in nostalgic style and who won't mind being mocked as dandies because they know it's just mere a hobby. And people who hunt, are motor enthusiasts or smoke pipe. A hobby that any ordinary man can have without being accused of being discriminating or patronizing people at any other roles in society. Being able to switch between roles a bit doesn't mean old role models'd be totally obsolete. In that way I hold our society in high value.

Regards to women being equally (or at least sufficiently) capable at some tasks, certain fields of occupations can be kept up by men in really stubborn manner. So to say, you men aren't obsolete as you've managed to drag yourselves along with at least at some level. But some could ask if that is anyhow better direction for the future either.

We will always need both men and women, even if it's only for the sake of breeding.

This is being spoken from a biological standpoint, mind you.

I think your signature is a bit disturbing.

That is off-topic squared, though. Agree with your main point. Got a Degree in Electrical Engineering which is where my Dad sent me to go, so I have a skill that's well rooted in the future. However you're right there isn't really a draft and if there were, it would be really unfair to those with ASD but no diagnosis. ASD numbers are really skyrocketing. Really lost as to why!

Trends become clear on the Internet. Lot of people want to be writers. Maybe we're opening a new dimension in the imagination. Physical matter waking consciousness, everything's already set... And instead of focusing on society's issues I gotta remember to try and quietly survive myself... Get too caught up in the problems in the world and the country and I go off in my head all day about nonsense and jeopardize my own survival

However I think it's screwed up that we're animals, and genetically predisposed maybe to a nomadic culture, but there's no animals in the wild to hunt. Then because some of us don't integrate well into this artificial socially imagined culture we're labeled as outcasts or handicapped.
