Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

I am watching a video my friend made of him flying. It is incredible to see what he does and ask him questions because he was a pilot and the plane he is flying now is one his brother flew and landed at the airport he is going to now.

I asked him about ignoring the tower instructions to lower his altitude. He said the tower was wrong, their instructions were dangerous. Instead of 3,000 feet he is maintaining 11,000 feet for safety, and slowly adjusting to the tower heading. I asked him if he is flying like a real pilot in a real plane and he said yes. He is checking everything, adjusting, listening to traffic. I hope I can learn to play from him. I played FS 2020 some and it was the best game I have ever seen but it was too hard because I did not know how. He says the game has classes. I will get the game if I can and take those classes.

I will be playing on an Xbox Series X. I have a very good and large television so it looks great. He is using a PC but I do not think I could do that. My PC is fast enough, i-7 12700K, RTX-3070ti, 32gb 3666 RAM but I cannot use a mouse, only controls I can keep in my lap. I can use the Xbox controller very well. I would love to use the pedals and yoke, they look great. First I will see if I can learn to play on the Xbox. The most beautiful game, the mountains and land and sun. I saw snow around a dark lake in the mountains.

It is so exciting hearing a real pilot teach me about flying. He has an awful story about almost dying in the mountains in fog. They made it but it sounded terrifying. I talked to him about this game for about a year. He bought a gaming laptop, a great monitor, controls. He has played a lot. He says if he really likes it he will get a top-end desktop PC to play it.

It (the tower) just told him now to increase altitude to 11,000ft, exactly where he stayed, he was right 🙂

He also taught me a pilot joke. He said he is flying IFR (I Follow Roads) 😆

I've played some flight simulator games on my cell phone before. I wish I could learn to fly a real plane (one of those small one or two person ones). I became fascinated by airplanes at a very young age. I used to pretend things like my bicycle and my swing were airplanes. There used to be a rope section attached to my old rope swing that I could control it with to bank, yaw, and such.

It’s great to see your enthusiasm for this, @grommet! :)

I used to be big into flight sim games many years ago. The last flight sim game I played was Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002. I had a stick and throttle, Thrustmaster II if I remember correctly.

I also had a radio scanner to listen to real life air traffic control and I had it cycle through the frequencies for Edinburgh International Airport, approach, tower and ground control while I was playing. Sometimes I would listen to the automated weather reports.

But the immersion in this latest 2024 release looks incredible.

I interviewed a pilot who flew those little crop dusters back in the 30s? 40? and on.

Crashing was no big deal. He had walked away from a half dozen crashes. They were terrifying to listen to. In one situation, he hit electrical wires.

If you have ever watched old videos of crop dusters, you see they fly very close to the ground, then pull up and turn around at the end of the field.

He told me a story of clipping the head off a wild turkey with his wing.

That is some real flying.

I want to talk to everyone but a lot happened today and my brain is not good now, needs time.

Update. My friend bought me the Aviator edition, it is $200 and includes everything, every plane, everything. I tried it on Xbox and big problems. Cannot pull up the control panel. Cannot play without that. Some buttons will not work with it. It is sold for Xbox Series X, I have that. But problems. in the Marketplace I wanted to find other planes to fly, there are zero there. Completely empty. Says it is in progress but they accepted the money now though the game seems it will not work until later. That does not seem right to me.

I am downloading it on my PC. I have a Logitech X52 joystick that ChatGPT says will work. I cannot use a mouse so maybe it could work for me until the games is fixed for Xbox. I have a plain monitor for PC, just interface. I would need to HDMI PC to tv which is very nice then play with joystick but would mean far from screen. Also I have to learn about something called drivers and how to do things with them.

I cannot do more today. I will write back as soon as I can. I may need a few days. Once I went out with friends and was not okay for two weeks. I will try.

Hello.

I used to listen to my local airport on a scanner too. It was wonderful. FS2020 and 2024 are incredible. My friend made an hour and a half flight and made it on video for me. I keep using the words incredible and amazing but I cannot think of other ones, the game is so amazing. Everything is accurate and the real-time lighting was astounding. He took off in the afternoon and arrived as it was evening. Seeing the changes was wonderful.

Does someone here know about computers and could come on my PC to make FS 2024 work? I do not mean the bugs it has, they will be fixed by developers over time the internet says.

I installed it today but I got two error messages. I will try to post them. I do not know what they mean. I do not know how to fix computers but maybe someone could.

From what I see online, such error codes imply you either need to update your graphics drivers, or maybe even replace your video card entirely. With this type of software you want to be closer to the maximum of the hardware requirements than the minimum.

What video card are you presently using?

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

I do not know about drivers. I think I have to know the name of the ones I look for then find them. I think some companies have them for their products at their websites. I have not downloaded one before. Would it be hard for you to do it?

Try downloading the driver directly from Nvidia. Just be prepared to select the OS and video card to get to the correct driver:

Product Type: GeForce
Product Series: GeForce RTX 3070 Ti
Operating System: Windows 10 or 11 ?
Language: English (US)
Download Type: Game Ready Driver

Click on "Start Search" and just follow whatever directions come.

Download The Latest Official GeForce Drivers

Beyond this I'm afraid I can't be of much assistance as I haven't run Windows 10 on my computers in a couple of years. There's a precise regimen involved in upgrading drivers in Windows, but without actually having the OS in front of me, it would be very difficult to simply talk you through it. Though hopefully there probably are other gamers here who can do that effortlessly.

It's something I've done a number of times in the past, but I've worked very hard to mentally focus only on Linux, and contemptuously treat Microsoft like a "bastard stepchild". Of course as others like @Outdated can tell you, Linux has its own issues with Nvidia drivers. Definitely not one of my favorite subjects when it comes to tweaking my Linux Mint 22.0 OS!

@grommet - Back when I practiced law, I often flew in little planes, 2 seaters and 4 seaters, occasionally 6 seaters, with licensed pilots. Several times, the pilots would let me fly the plane from the copilot seat/controls. It was hard to keep the plane level, nose and tail and wings where they belonged, proper speed, etc. but it was fun. It's a real skill. I always wore headphones so I could hear the tower chatter and talk to my pilot over the noise of the plane.

I was surprised that it can be like the wild west up there in the sky when you fly in those little planes. There were a couple of times when the tower contacted our plane and asked us to be on the lookout for some other plane that the tower lost off the radar screen. One time as we were heading toward a major airport (Raleigh, NC as I recall), my pilot didn't know exactly where it was located, and the tower told us to follow the plane in front of us! Yeah, like "follow that car!" There were numerous occasions when we had to land at tiny remote airports that had no tower so the pilot and I would be looking out the windows to find the airport. Also, small planes definitely do follow the highways to destinations, they literally follow the roads. The small planes have to constantly watch for turbulent winds and weather. It was common for my pilots to ask the tower for "permission to divert" from the filed flight plan in order to dodge thunderstorms by going under, above or around them.

The video game sounds fun. I hope you can fix it and start flying today!

This is wonderful 🙂 It sounds like the things my friends tells me. In his long flight in FS 2024, in the video he made to show me, I asked him about different things. I said he was flying so smoothly. He said when he got near the airport he also had to look out for other planes, the tower did not tell him about them but he is a real pilot and so was doing real pilot things. I did not know he knew so much.

I am glad you were a lawyer. I loved contracts law. I thought "consideration" was fascinating. Was there a perceived benefit, does that make it a real benefit, does it have to be an intentional benefit? I loved it so much, I still find it wonderful. The law is all about fairness. It cannot work out that way in the real world but it is based in fairness and I really loved that. I am still confused about the "four corners doctrine" because my impression is that it is not real but a guideline but I like the idea.

Res judicata 😉

I did not notice before the link that said "Redirecting". That helped me. It did not teach me how to solve the problem but I felt better knowing someone else got the same error messages. I thought an RTX 3070 Ti would be powerful enough but maybe only for FS 2020. I do not have the money now to buy a new PC and it does not make financial sense to me to replace just the card. The system integrators charge so much less for the new cards installed in a whole new system which would also give me everything else. I think $2,800 would be right. That is not what I have now.

Another thing to do to save you time and effort, is to go into the Windows device manager and simply find out what version of Nvidia driver your 3070Ti uses. If it's a recent driver, then there's not much point in updating. That the software is simply too advanced to use even on a powerful card like the 3070Ti.

Another reason why I bowed out of gaming a long time ago. Got fed up trying to keep up with developers colluding with hardware manufacturers to keep game requirement$ going up and up and up.

I never thought of that, the gaming companies helping the hardware people sell products. My 3070 Ti has done so well. First I am going to keep trying to make it work on my Xbox, it says it works on Xbox so maybe they will fix it and it can. Thank you for helping 🙂

I was actually thinking of upgrading to an RTX 3060. But geez, if a 3070Ti has trouble with MFS, what's the point? My Nvidia 1660Ti works great for what I do, even with just a few games.

Being a lover of flight sims in the past, I know how easily newer ones take up so much in the way of system resources. To a point where indeed, it simply isn't worth it. Better IMO to focus on console-based gaming and leave it at that. Where games can be dedicated to a specific hardware platform with more predictable functionality.
