Monitoring Health Of Disk

The Penguin

Chilly Willy The Penguin
There is a great tool I use called Hard Disk Sentinel that monitors the health of your disk. It knows how many times your drive been powered on, the history of the temperature of the disk, the health of the drive and other info. It does used the disk built in SMART feature to retrieve all of this information. My recent 2 TB hard drive that died, Sentinel told me the disk been powered on for 6.25 years.

I'm still exploring other features of this product. I'm going to pay more attention to the health of my drives since my computers are never off due to running a server and RDP.

There is also the utility software smartmontools. It runs in the background and will give early warning on failing disks.
I know there is a Windows version of the software, but i don't know hot well it works in Windows.
I have not installed it in windows, but i use it on my main computer that is running a Linux distribution.
