Most overrated films

i did a thread about underrated films now I'm wondering what films do you believe didn't live up to the hype or thought was made up to be great but when you went to see it was a disappointment.

Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's a cult classic but I've seen the movie once and a play of it live... and I just don't get it. Every part of it was terrible to me.

It's not about the movie, it's about the audience.

Overrated? Star Wars Episodes 1 and 2. A Beautiful Mind. And especially Chicago (although that applies to most who possess a Y chromosome).

I'm probably going to get shot down for this but I think the dark knight was overrated, maybe it's because I don't like movies that are dark and gritty but I felt that it was slow and I try to watch it twice to see what I was missing but I still couldn't enjoy it,but I do think Heath ledger did act well in it as the joker.

Judge Dredd, the one with Sylvester Stallone in it. I remember practically jumping with excitement to see it, BIG fan of the comic's. I was broken hearted when I saw what american focus groups had thought would sell better. Why...seriously why do Movie companies pick up the rights to something which has already proven popular and has a pre-existing fan base and then decide to change it completely???? I was crushed when I saw what had become of my childhood favorite comic.

I know the feeling I just recently saw the trailer to Jem and the Holograms and by the looks of it they have taken everything that made the cartoon and changed it completely,no synergy,no misfits nothing and I loved Jem as a little girl,as of judge dredd I agree horrible movie but what did you think of the recent judge dredd movie?

I thought it wasn't bad, kinda reminded me of the short format of the comic. Shame it must have had a small budget as there were only ever a handful of people milling around in any scene in what is supposed to be an over congested totalitarian megacity lol
Setting the majority of the film in a single building was a good idea due to this. Pity it didn't do very well at the box office as I would love to see some of the classic storylines up on the big screen. The Apocalypse war would just suit the cinema format soo well.

How about you?

I saw it on TV it was better than the first one but I never read the comics, are they any good?

The comics are great. Most of my childhood was spent with my head buried in that comic. It had a great sense of humor and satire, many of the really good comic writers out there cut there teeth writing for the comic. Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman, Garth Ennis etc... definatly worth reading if your into comics.

I am into comics but only the old stuff I hate all the new stuff especially with the main two but yeah I never seen many judge dredd comics where I live but sound interesting I'm trying to get into the smaller companies since I'm not liking all the stuff that's out lately.

I believe we can put most blockbusters that come out constantly in this category. The hype machine clearly has no brakes and almost every "big" movie Hollywood hurls out is given more credit than it deserves. Sure some are good movies, but I don't buy into the entire notion that we have a full year with amazing movies... year and year again.

Yeah I prefer the more independant comics. I love the Preacher series Garth Ennis at his sacrilegious best lol
Hell Blazer is another goodie and anything by Neil Gaiman or Alan Moore.
What are the older comics you like?

Um mostly marvel stuff, avengers Spider-Man,silver surfer and fantastic four use to be really into x-men but haven't bought a x-men comic in years,I also like the original crow graphic novel since I loved the movie, but I don't mind the phantom aswell which is a pretty old comic.

Can't do Marvel movies. I've tried, even Guardians of the Galaxy, and I just can't get into them. The only superhero movies I like are Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. Though I did like Tim Burton's take when I was a kid. I think the Avengers is the worst of them all. Suuuuuper overrated. It's one of those movies people will look back on and think, "Well... it was good at the time."

Everyone loved District 9, but I didn't like it. I get it's a metaphor for the apartheid and all, but it still didn't work for me.

I zoned out so many times watching the Captain America movie... and Guardians I never finished watching because it was acting up on my player, but it was already dragging about 15 minutes in. Mindless.
I have a special dislike for "300" after hearing ravings about it that literally went on for years. I wanted to punch my eyes out watching it. The CG was so disgusting... does anything ever have to look that gelatinous and surrealistically slow-motion-ly ...dying?? And I really was just blown flat on my face when I realized that all of the horse deaths were going to be brutally realistic and touched with emotion.
Most anything by Quentin Tarantino also makes it onto my list of over-rated movies I hate for similar reasons. I also hated "Avatar" because it was dumb and formulaic. I argued with people about it for weeks, and eventually was regarded with the respect I deserved.
