Hi all,

My therapist suggested I created an account on some form of autism forums/groups to meet others with autism and discover myself.

I'm 24, a woman and was recently diagnosed. It's been a long and hard struggle working out exactly who I am (and I'm not there yet at all) and trying to understand autism and myself better. I suffer from severe low confidence and self esteem and I want to work on that too.

It's nice to meet you all and I look forward to getting to know more of you.

We're glad you joined. There is a great mix of Autistics here that will relate to the signs and symptoms, abilities, interests and/or needs you have. Where some are diagnosed, others are self-diagnosed or suspect such diagnoses, or have family or friends on the Autism Spectrum.

As well, whereas some are totally content and fine with things, others seem to need more support, direction or answers and want some change. Every Autistic will be different, and expresses when and in the way they can. So, you'll find lots of support here, and lots of helpful advice, too, with regards to self-esteem as well..

Welcome! There are great and caring people here.

By your age, and in the 70s when ASD was rarely diagnosed, I was reaching a low point in my isolation, hated myself and decided that needed to change. Previous to this my intellectual abilities were unquestioned so people probably thought I was normal though my pain was obvious. Evidently I was coping by trying to meet the expectations of everybody. It took a lot of introspection to recognized that I was whipsawed by the expectations of others and was not my own person. So, I slowly put myself together learning to like myself, finding my voice and advocating for myself, creating my own agency. Several years later and I was confident enough to seek relationships.

I wish you a healing journey.

Welcome. You've come to the right place. There are a few other Autism related support forums on the internet. Another one is very well known. In my opinion, this forum is far and away the most positive and therefore most healthy and supportive then other ones I've been a member of. At least one of the others can be, in my opinion, downright toxic. Tread with care.

Thank you very much for making me aware!

Welcome to the forums. I wish I had a place like this when I was your age, but that was before the spectrum was a thing. I was able to self-diagnose, back then, by reading description of Asperger's.

Hi, and Welcome to the Forums! I hope you make new friends and enjoy your stay in the process!
