Wanted to brag a little. :) The first picture was what I moved in to.
The next is what I did myself, except for the sink and countertop, which my sons did for me. The final picture I took today, and it finally actually looks like a kitchen. I picked up the top cupboards and put them up myself. I wanted a copper refrigerator so covered it with copper contact paper. Oh - you can't really see the faux window over the sink looking at Monument Valley. And my floor - you'll never guess.

Very nice! I love the white cabinets. There wasn’t even a kitchen from what I can tell from the first pic!

I moved into my son's basement/garage/wood working shop and turned it into my apartment. It's been fun and, best of all, I've done it mostly myself with a few exceptions - son built a couple small walls, replaced the garage door with French doors and put in a big nice bathroom - but I finished it off. :)

I like it Pats! It looks much better. There was a floor similar to that in my Gram's kitchen. Let me guess, new floor is either a sheet of linoleum or I give up?
I put down marble contact paper, then poured and covered with a thick layer of clear seal. :)
I had put down the tiles before, but got tired of that.

Your pictures are inspiring. After my divorce is final I’m planning to buy my own little house that has to be affordable and probably a fixer upper.
I’m looking forward to using tools and ingenuity like you did.

I’m in the trades. I can answer your questions if needed. :)

It looks like a nice comfortable workspace. My kitchen is tiny and cramped. I'd love a bit more space in there!

You've got me thinking, I looked at sticky backed plastic ,what you call contact paper, I actually call it fablon now i'm thinking about a rainbow coloured glitter fridge.
Saw a blue glitter coloured metallic sticky back plastic such a beautiful colour .

Ok. Obviously the first picture is when I first moved in. :)
In the second picture - basement walls are cinderblock and concrete so it's hard to do anything to the walls - like nail. I textured the walls and I used some construction glue stuff to stick the molding on the walls. I was proud of my desk. I found an old buffet that I liked because the top drawers had an old lock on them (which I did find a skeleton key that fit). Anyhow, turned it into my desk and the pillow is where my dog usually lays. Don't mind the kids - an overnight with Memaw. :)
Last picture - my son had made me the small bar and I recovered the chair. I put the self stick tiles down a small section at a time.

Our inner sanctums are so important. Nice to see you are making the most of what you have.

Well done, Pats. :)
