My nerves

DaisyRose

Well-Known Member
I was nervous today because I was learning something new. I managed to get a hold on learning how to use and operate a cash register. I was nervous because I didn’t want to make any mistakes. I was able to learn a lot and have a positive day.

I had a great time learning and interacting with customers. One thing I am struggling with is giving the right amount of change back. I don’t know why my brain can’t catch on it’s taking me longer to grasp that. Other than that, I think I did a great job for my first day.

Well done, @DaisyRose! I’ve had terrible trouble figuring out a register on the spot. But, I think it just gets easier as you build confidence and practice more.

So happy this endeavor is working out for you.

@Rodafina Thank you so much! I hope that I continue to make good progress because it is something I want to learn. It’s great for work experience.

Wow. We could all use a day like that. More power to you.

Congrats on being able to learn a lot! I'm very happy for you. It will definitely get easier for you over time. You've got this!

This is great to read! I'm very happy for you :) I remember my first time at the register too; it's nerve-wracking.

We're the opposite; you're great at the customer-interaction and me...well, not so much.

For the change thing, that will come with time too!
If you wish, you can always practice memorizing basic math facts if you think that is something you would enjoy.
Things like 3+4 = 7 and 9-4 = 5.
A good way to remember the facts (but could be too rigid for many) is to repeat and answer math facts in this order:

1+1 = 2
1+2 = 3
1+3 = 4
. . .
1+9 = 10

and for subtraction
10-1 = 9
10-2 = 8
. . .
10-9 = 1
10-10 = 0

When you get used to these working with these number fluidly without having to think about it, that is how you can be really quick with change. Not everyone is able to study and remember like that.
There are probably people who have caught on by learning visually and kinesthetically too, but I suspect to be so fluid with math and good with change in those methods is likely a much smaller percentage of people who know math so fluidly like that.

I have found that it’s not the math that I struggle with. It’s hard for me to do math in my head, so I started to bring a notepad and a pen to work. I tried it today and it has helped me so much. I am a visualizer, so it helps me memorize things. Thanks for the suggestion I appreciate it.
