My Sister-in-Law called me "Normal" [emoji23]

The other day, my husband was on the phone with our Sister-in-Law (his twin brother's wife). We were in the car and he had her on speaker phone.
She is quite the gossip and loves to talk about family drama. I listened intently as she went on and on about the dysfunction of family gatherings and how she didn't trust one our other Sister-in-Laws. She then went on to say "that's why I like Shawn. She's just normal. She tells it like it is."
I couldn't help but smile. One of the more glaring traits of Asperger's, honesty to a fault/being matter-of-fact, apparently makes me "normal" in the eyes of my SIL. [emoji23]

Haha! I get the same thing. I've been told how real and not fake I am due to my honesty. Just last month I was also told how normal I was because I say things like it is. I'm then wondering how much of the population is faking it if I stand out so much!

I've always wondered myself what is so wrong with saying what everyone else is thinking? I like those kind of people. Some of the funniest people who ever lived, like Joan Rivers, were funny because they were so bluntly honest and would say out loud what everyone else was thinking but didn't dare say. I've had people tell me that they like my honesty but then I never hear from them again. Even met people who blurt out things just as much as I do but then act like I'm the wierdo. I tend to make friends with other women who do the same. Then they don't stay friends with me. I feel like I had a connection then I'm the one who gets rejected. I don't know if it's because I've somehow said something too honestly to someone who does the same thing?

ive never been referred to as normal, ive been; backward, thick, retarded, simple, unteachable and disturbed but never normal, god help it if people start calling me normal, thatd mean the definition of normality would have changed somewhat profoundly and normal would cease to exist as we know it hell it doesnt exist anyway,i love it when people think theyre normal theyre probably the most screwed up. :D

I've been called a lot of things ("crazy" has come up more than once), but this is the first time someone has referred to me as "normal". [emoji12]

Tooth, believe me I am not being patronizing when I say that when you write about autism and what it feels like , and about what life is about and how people (Auties and Nts ) should act toward one another, well, whatever kind of normal or abnormal or whatever you are on, I want in. I think you are the King Of Perspicacity!! That is a word I really like, so there you go. :-)
