Name Associations

Behind the Mask
I am fascinated by names and often associate someone's name with a personality characteristic they might possess. Do you do this and if so what traits does a person's name suggest to you?

I will start things off and although I mean no offence to anyone called this I associate the name Derek with being boring.

Onomastics [names] is one of my interests, too. When it comes to real people, I am usually aware of their actual meanings.

When I commission figures at Studio 126 [see bio page], I name them according to both name meanings and name impressions.

Impression examples:
  • A woman who reminds me of a Persian cat, Priscilla a.k.a. Prissy
  • Her husband who reminds me of an owl, Alwin a.k.a. Al
  • Another woman who reminds me of a skunk, Misty
  • A man who reminds me of a kangaroo rat, Joey
Meaning examples:
  • A cougar-looking man; Leandro, "lion-man"
  • Black Bear hamster, a woman; Ursula, "little she-bear"
  • An ant-looking guy; Miles, "soldier"
  • A mountain sheep-looking woman; Rocky < Raquel, "ewe"
