Why am I so tired but not tired at the same time?! I'm too tired to get up and do stuff but not tired enough to go to sleep? Does this ever happen to anyone? And how do you try and get out of it? I'm growing a tollerance to coffee/caffiene.

Have you been checked for depression?
 
I've had that precise same problem (as well as others) for years now. It could be depression. It could be thyroid disorder. I've been taking medication for both for a long time. Neither is helping.
 
My son has Aspergers (age 16) and has the same problem. When he is good about taking his vitamins he feels better. Includes: Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin D and Probiotics. He feels completely different when he takes them all. Vitamin D deficiency seems to be a common theme...might want to check that one.
 
I have altered my diet significantly over the past few years and I've found that to be a help. Low sugar low carbs lots of vegetables lean protein. I also have a dietary allergy I discovered that was causing symptoms like you described. Also I know it sounds contradictory but if you can get into some sort of exercise routine I've found it can help with sleep difficulties and end up giving you more energy.
 
Yeah I'm really struggling with this right now. For the past year or so.. I just can't seem to shake it. Eating better does seem to help but I still just want to sleep all weekend and am still tired.

It sounds like your in the state of seasonal depression like most of us, during winter with the sun going down early we don't get the Vitamin D that we need from it, also the change that comes with it from the hours going back and it becoming darker earlier. It seems to only pass as the season's change.
 
I know this feeling. It's called Getting Stuck. It's where you don't really have anything you want to be doing at the current moment, or you don't know what to do, or you should be doing something but you just don't have the willpower.
 
I know the feeling. I kind of use my aspie ideosyncrosities as a tool. I'm very routine oriented so I'll try to add or remove things in my routine until I start feeling better. I don't think there are any easy answers to this. Especially because we're each so unique it's tough to say what will work for each individual.
 
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I do believe exercise and getting the right nutrients would be extremely helpful. But getting into that mode is the hard part. The sun setting so early probably has alot to do with it too. Summer seems alot easier to handle.

I have both Hypothyroidism and Asperger's! (so I'm frequently depressed and very tired) I was born with Congenital Hypothyroidism, before it was tested for at birth in the US. I wasn't diagnosed until I was three months old, this was the explanation given for why I was "different" growing up! I didn't find out I had Asperger's until I was thirty-nine.

I have always had a very difficult time falling and staying asleep, it wasn't until I was Forty that I was told (by eye specialist treating my severely dry eyes) that I sleep with my eyes open! I have to wear a mask at night that blocks out all light and moving air. I take Advil PM to fall asleep and Amitriptyline to stay asleep!

I believe that Aspies are easily tired by our sensory difficulties and attempts at Socialization. I tend to be hyper-alert, always searching for a possible escape route! Socializing is tiring because it doesn't come naturally and we have to try so much harder, this can be exhausting!
 
I just wanna know, why does everything have to be SOOOOO GD HARD??!! NOTHING ever comes easily to me, I have to FIGHT for every GD little thing.:mad:

Its probably because we, being human after all, crave positive feelings just like every one else. However, our brains are hardwired for fight or flight and we, more than most others, require conscious intellectual processing of the the more executive and social aspects of our lives. I think the first step is to embrace the fact that we are different and hence require different approaches to finding that happiness everyone so seeks.
 
That's why it's called fight or flight. Our physiologies prepare us for both. The way our bodies respond to either is similar. As aspies our brains tend to shut off when the inputs exceed what they determine to be overwhelming. The theory is that this is meant to conserve energy. Since our wiring is different, we shut down quicker than others. Kind of like a possum playing dead.
 
OMG, that.

Does anybody know what to do about the chronic mental fatigue? That seems to be, like, at least 65% of my misery— it's just so exhausting to focus on things.
