New,and wanting to learn more!

Hi everyone! My name is Husnah, I'm from Singapore and I have just been diagnosed last July.

I didn't know that I was actually an Aspie until I came across some books on autism in the library (special display for autism awareness month). Browsed through a bit and thought that I could relate.

Promptly forgotten all about it, but decided to read up obsessively on it a week later. Took an online test, was convinced I was an Aspie, and then badgered my doctor to fix an appointment for me to get an assessment (he wasn't convinced that I had Asperger's).

After months of waiting, I'd finally gone for my assessment, got my diagnosis, and felt half-relieved and half-upset. I finally know why I've been so different and difficult (some of it's justified,in my opinion.lol) my whole life.

Still trying to learn more about this. I don't really know many Aspies from my own country. Doesn't seem like most people are even aware of its existence. Also wondering if there's any other Muslim Aspies like me. Just curious.

Hope to get to know some of you real soon. Cheers!

Welcome to aspie central Husnah,You will be able to learn more about aspergers here. I think there may be another member from singapore?

Don't worry about your religion as long as you don't push it you'll be ok

Thanks for replying! Not gonna push religion but I've never met another Muslim Aspie so just wondering if there are any.Lol

What exactly do people do here anyway?=) Is it just talking?

Welcome!! First thing, what gender do you identify with? If you're female, the book Aspergirls by Rudy Simone is the best. I don't know about any male centered Aspergers books, or any other gendered books.
On here is mostly talking to people about life with Aspergers. As you go through the forums, you'll see a topic you like, and join the conversation. I just joined last week and I already feel like a family here :) You can also post threads, and get answers you need.

Thanks!

I'm female, and it certainly seems interesting here. I'll try to look for that book that you've mentioned. =)

Hello Husnah! I don't know if there are any other Muslim Aspies here, but salaam alaikum! Everyone is welcome here, regardless of national origin, religion, etc.

We talk, yes---but we cover many subjects! We give each other advice and talk about the things we like to do, and share what's going on in our lives. :)

Waalaikum salam! Okay, that's cool. Muslim Aspie! *does a little jig*

It's like this whole new world that I've never known about, but am suddenly a part of. It's really great!

There ARE GREAT gender specific aspie books. And non gender too. I'm a professional disability advocate. People of all races have ASD. Just like most other differences/ disorders. I have read literally over 40 on ASD. I don't recommend the majority of them. However, RUDY Simone's are some of the exceptions! Welcome! I'll post more later.

Thanks! Please recommend more books or videos or journal articles that would be interesting or helpful for a newbie. =)

Hi Husnah. I am the 'other' member from Singapore, though I would like to think of myself as a Geordie. :D

We discuss about autism and our interests here. We also share about our daily life, our feelings, fears and hopes, in various threads around the forum.

I also wonder why we don't get that many Aspies in Asia as a whole. Also, for the Aspies I met, most are not so trusting of other people, perhaps because of the discrimination Aspies face in terms of securing opportunities for education, employment and life. (More on that on either my blog, my other posts here, or on future posts.)
