New Here and Newly Diagnosed

Carnelian

Active Member
Hi. I'm Carnelian. I'm new here. Obviously.

Um. I'm very shy on new forums because I've had bad experiences sometimes and I also don't read/understand tones and stuff very well and it's even worse online but so please go easy on me...

I'm 19 years old. Just got diagnosed ASD (But the specialist said it's technically Aspergers, but they can't call it that officially anymore or something) a few weeks ago. I've always sorta known though. I've always been a little...off.

Um...I live with my mom and sister. My dad died two years ago. I have three cats and a dog.

I'm a writer and currently have a full and partial manuscript requests out with ten literary agents which is SUPER good and I hope to be traditionally published one day. I fire dance and have videos of it on Youtube.

Um...I don't come from a very supportive family. I'll probably elaborate more later.

Nice to meet you.

Welcome to the forums! It is nice to meet you too. I am trying to become a writer myself. Working on my first story. It may possibly be taking me too long, dunno. I also, obviously, read quite a lot. What kind of stuff do you write?

It is cool that you do firedancing! I tried to learn it in high school, but I kept smacking myself with the thingies. Don't worry, I never set them on fire.

The reason they got rid of the aspergers diagnosis is because of the difficulty in distinguishing people diagnosed with it from people diagnosed with high functioning autism. The criteria were distinct (sorta--a few of the distinctions were in terms of how many criteria you meet, as well as two no-nos for AS: speech delay and intellectual disability), but there was just too much chaos in the application of the label. So they were smudged together.

Thanks, both of you!

I write Young Adult fantasy, mostly. High Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, etc.

My MS with agents is a YA High Fantasy based on the Age of Caribbean Piracy!

Oh I like pirate and fantasy novels, maybe you'll become super famous and I'll read your books and be able to say "I knew him when"

Welcome aboard. :)

Hi Carnelian I'm admiring & envious of your fire dancing; some of the chain lengths that get thrown are awesome it's really dramatic stuff :) Welcome to A-Central!

Hi & Welcome
I don't know what fire dancing is. But in my imagination I see leaping over fire, hear drums, and smell burnt cat hairs. :D

You don't need to worry about folks here on AC. Its very friendly atmosphere, not snarky. We're Aspies and need at least one place where we don't have to deal with that crap.

Carnelian, I welcome you, I hope you hang with us, and post often.
I am interested in this fire dancing thing. Could you elucidate.
I attended Habilis University, and am among the elite group of time worn but not totally decrepit and used up Aspers.
Oops, hold on a moment, I got to catch this train, of thought, whew.
Oh yes, fire, it was a new thing back then. I thought it might have some use as a depilatory or for lice removal.
Dancing with fire! I have a true= fact story for you. Could I pique your interest with a exotic carny fire act.
I'll tell you what, you tell me your act and I'll tell you hers.
