Hi everyone, I'm a 44 year female, based in the UK. After receiving a disciplinary hearing after problems with clients at work, I decided I had to sort myself out and get help. I suspected I may have AS and did lots of the online tests. I scored high on all of them and have just had a pre-diagnostic assessment done in the UK (I scored 42/50 on the AQ test).

I have a doctor's appointment next week where hopefully I will be referred to a ASD specialist so that I can get a diagnosis.

I will most probably update this thread with my progression. Although I am feeling a little anxious I am relieved that my "there's something wrong with me" thought processes have been explained.

I am a 45 year old American ( I hope you don't hold that against me ) and have only been on AC for a month. In that short time I have come to rely on the knowledge and compassion of the members and enjoy my place among them. Welcome and good luck! :)
 
Welcome! Hope your testing goes well. It is normal to be anxious.

I am envious you are in the UK; I miss the time I spent there! Also, people here aren't very understanding of anyone who is different, so I am always wondering if other places are more open-minded.
 
Welcome Asperella. I am one of the many members here who have posted that they experienced a sense of relief after being diagnosed as "on the spectrum".

Here is hoping that your sense of relief is fulfilled.

Hi everyone and thank you for your kind wishes and messages. Went to the doctor on Tuesday and have been referred to my local community adult aspergers' service (CAAS). My doctor was great and didn't challenge me at all so I am now waiting to hear from CAAS. I've been trying to find out how long the entire diagnosis journey will take but find anything - I believe it depends on what local authority you are based in, but the fact that my LA has a specific adult service may mean the diagnosis will be a few months (rather than 12-18 months which is the norm in some locations in the UK).

I also went to an adult aspergers' support group which really gave me a lift (as I've been having so many problems at work). All the attendees were very friendly and we had an interesting talk on personality styles. I'll probably update this thread again when I've been to my first diagnosistic session.

Haha, no I have nothing against Americans - I love the place and spent five months living and working in New Orleans a few years back. Would be interested to know if the US has the equivalent of the UK's Autism Act.
 
Don't know about autism act, but aspies and autistics are protected under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)

Hi asperella, welcome. I'm also from the UK so probably gone through the same diagnosis process. I didn't have to wait to long was about two months before I seen the aspergers specialist person :) or psychological theropist.. whatever she was, probably should have tried to listen to her a bit more haha.
