Hello!
My name is Daniel, English teacher, living in Chile and I was officially diagnosed Asperger's Syndrome just this year. I've been having issues my whole life, or at least as far as I can remember. I have been receiving therapy since I was 18, running 31 now, but I had never been told I had Asperger, my initial diagnosis were depression, personality disorders, puberty, etc.

I had been in and out of therapies trying to understand why do people act the way they do and trying to imitate that behavior in order to fit in my cultural and social environment. The road so far has been really hard but now I have a good team of specialists supporting and helping me grow.

I need to meet people and be able to form some kind of relationship with them, I'm not really good at that, I don't talk much and my interests are very specific and limited just to name a few examples. I was recommended to start by playing online games, meeting new people there but I had found that even though it takes the social anxiety of being in front of actual people looking at you and every other pesky thought out of the equation, it is still difficult to find people that are not already clustered together to start something new or try to integrate myself into a group of people.

And that is mostly why I'm here. Trying to meet new people.
Cheers!

Welcome, Daniel!
Hope that you'll like it here, but I'm confident you probably will: lots of information, and best of all, friendly, helpful people you'll probably relate to.

Daniel, you should make the Chilean flag your avatar. It's so similar to the Texas flag that we could blow people's minds. ;)

Yeah, been there, done that (not teaching, that sounds just too scary). So often you get picked up for depression and anxiety. Autism is only considered once all the therapies don't work on the comorbid conditions.

You are among others.

Welcome! I have found that it is easier for me to make friends with fellow aspies. Hopefully you can find a few people on here with similar interests. You might only find long-distance friends here, but with modern technology you should have no problem staying connected.

Thank you all for your responses.
I have to confess that I'm also new to this forum kind of stuff. I'll try to be active and engage in the discussion topics but I tend to loose interest fairly quick if I don't find people engaging back.
Hope to see you people around.

Hi & Welcome,
I hope mixing in with other Aspies is a positive experience for you. Its no social 'magic bullet' but I found it much more satisfying then any attempts I'd made with online NT groups.
