Hello,
I am on here trying to get help as well as answers. I have recently started dating a guy that has a 3 year old son. I have been around that child a lot here lately. I don't know the whole story about what happened and didn't happen when the little one was with his mother. All I know is that the dad recently got full custody of the little boy who we will call JR. So the dad let me know when we first started talking that JR has temper tantrums and likes to hit his head on the floor or the wall, also that if JR gets mad at you that he will find anything he can to throw at you. We can all be sitting there watching tv and out of the middle of nowhere, JR will start screaming and hitting his head on the floor. If you go up to him and try to hold him or talk to him all it does is make him so much angrier. I spoke with the dad and told him that we need to get JR in to the doctor and see what he says. I have done some research about autism as well as Asperger's and I think that JR has one of the two. The dad has gotten a referral to go see another doctor to see about having him diagnosed. The baby is 3 years old and I worry about him I want to get as much information that I can as well as everyone's help. I feel so sorry for JR. He won't speak to anyone and tell them what he needs or what he wants. He also like to headbutt and I must say that kid has one hard head. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds a lot like how my son was that age,and still is to a lesser degree.. get him to that Psychiatrist and get him diagnosed and follow through with the therapies. Don't yell or shout, it will just teach him to do the same. Remain calm. You have a long road ahead of you, but it's all worth it in the long run.
