New to being an Aspie

Hi community. I am a 52 YO male that has recently been diagnosed with Aspergers. It's thrown me for a loop and am trying to get my head around things.

As for my background, I would say I've had a fairly successful life so far. I've been married for 27 years to a great lady, I have two adult children and one still in high school. I've been gainfully employed and I live in a nice area of California. However, I've known since childhood that I've been very different than others. I truly hated being treated like an outcast so I became a world class actor, trying to learn to act like neurotypical people.

A few weeks back my wife, who works at an elementary school, said that I exhibit similar characteristics to some of the kids at school with Aspergers. I wasn't real happy to hear her say that about me. However, she is one of the most intelligent people I know so I had to learn more about Aspergers. The long and short of it is that I'm new to this truth and am struggling a bit. I'm hoping I can get some support from this community but also hope that I can eventually give back.

Hi Hoomi, welcome. Just remember you are the same person you were before you got diagnosed. You appear to have coped well in life so far, use the knowledge you gain about yourself and life can only get better.
