Hi

I'm 38 and not currently diagnosed with Asperger's, however I was in a meeting recently with a psychiatric doctor to discuss my son's behaviours who is diagnosed with Autism. Anyway she asked the question did I have any autistic traits and I listed quite a few. She seemed to think there was a strong possibility that my son's autism could be inherited from me. I had thought about Asperger's before but dismissed it as I just thought there's no way that could be me. I'm no Einstein but I have a reasonable understanding of most things and can articulate reasonably well but just struggle socially. But suddenly everything made sense. All the things in my life I couldn't understand why I was struggling with could be explained. It's given me an enormous sense of relief and self acceptance. So in a strange way I actually hope I have Asperger's if that makes sense! Anyway I'm getting the ball rolling with meeting a professional who will hopefully help me get a diagnosis. I look forward to hearing other people's stories and questions on this site. Especially people who have been diagnosed in adult life and how it's benefitted them. Also what support is out there for people with Asperger's? Look forward to meeting you all.

Hi JonJoe Lots of us will empathize with your mixture of feelings about possible diagnosis, the very best of luck with your journey.
