New trilogy from J.K. Rowling

I can't believe I haven't heard about before but at the same time not quite that crazy over it. There's a new trilogy coming out by Jk Rowling. JK Rowling Creating Trilogy for New Harry Potter World

I guess there's a three planned movie series about this as well :/

Well, if anyone can pull another rabbit out of a hat it would be J.K. Rowling.

But then the more I think about it, I suspect she can do much better than just a rabbit. How bout another Ford Anglia?

She must have found some more cliche storylines for her to cobble together some more of the stuff!

(Ok, I know a lot of people obviously like it, but I guess I'm too old now to watch it without seeing all the references to all the other fantasy storylines she has "used".)

I never paid much attention to the stories until my mother (30 years older than I was) made me take her to the first movie.Up to then I too thought it was all kids' stuff. But I loved how happy it made my mother, who desperately needed something to smile about.
That's the primary reason I enjoy Harry Potter films.

Yup. I have seen how much people enjoy them, so who am I to humbug! I have actually watched them all apart from the very last one (they were shown on TV every week but they never showed the final film!).

Why not make more if people enjoy it

To be fair, pretty much every fantasy writer has borrowed things from somewhere, and pretty much every "high fantasy" thing stems back to Norse and/or Celtic mythology. Elves, dwarves, giants, dragons, trolls, fortunetelling/magic, faeries, and more come straight out of historical lore. The very name of Tolkien's "Middle Earth" is an English translation of the Old Norse "Midgard," the name used for the human world in Norse mythology.

To me the lure of Harry Potter lies largely in the richness of all the characters themselves rather than the overall story line. I suspect if such a dynamic is lost in future stories and films, it could be problematic given those who are likely to compare it to past achievements.

It could be worse, it could've been written like a certain series that ruined an old genre by breaking the old rules that vampires aren't suppose to be in the sunlight

Yes, it seems recycling existing material has been the order of the day for some time.

Why not combine Harry Potter with Vampires!! Then they can fly around chasing bats and have an amusing joke about playing that silly game with a real bat! Of course, there will be a big fight between the vampires at the end of the film as to who gets to bite the heroines neck....

Then, the dragons arrive, just in time to rescue them all. Errrr, I'm running out of cliche here - help!

Exactly this. When you get to the "plot" level, there's only so many things that can be done, and they'll all been done a million and one times. Just look at the database TV Tropes has compiled. What makes stories unique are things like character and relationship development and building a rich world that you can immerse yourself in for a couple of hours.

There's one book in the Harry Potter series that I didn't really enjoy and that was the fifth book or "The order of the phoenix" because at the time of reading, I though that Harry had a little too much teenage angst and the book was slow at times ...

I always had the idea that Hagrid was like an Aspie in some ways He had a very kind heart and was gentle and had an obsession with monsters that people had used against him ...
