I thought that I'd post a little intro here.
I'm a 37-year-old woman, and I recently realized I probably have Asperger's. I've been struggling with social skills and seclusion all my life, and instead of going out and partying, I've been staying at home and obsessing about things. My special obsession interests include history (mostly European), weather stuff (clouds, extreme weather phenomena), planes, trading cards, writing, and a lot of other things. I have trouble with all social situations, especially in conversations because I never know when to speak, so I tend to say things abruptly and often late. I'm also clumsy; I bump into things constantly and drop things. Also, I'm hypersensitive to noises and sunlight (and some other things like humidity). Routines and lists of what to do are extremely important to me; I panic in sudden situations.
I work as a teacher for the second year now, and while becoming a teacher has helped me a lot, working in such a social environment is very stressful for me, and I tend to think I won't be able to work in this profession until retirement age. My dream is to make it as a writer.
I'm thinking of seeking an official diagnosis, but I'm not sure it's worth it...having AS in my records could prevent me from pursuing some things I want, such as adopting a child. On the other hand, I'd really want to find out what a professional thinks of me (tests online indicate mild AS).
Anyway, I'm glad to be here!
