No bandages can I leave it?

Dad swung at me with a beer bottle, I have a medium sized gash on my upper arm. Can't tell my doctor because he's friends with dad and also don't have that much money. I'm used to cuts but this time it looks weird... like a sort of white layer and at another part it looks like there is brown stuff, it's hard to describe. It twitches occasionally which never happened before

I don't know how to do it under your circumstances (unless you can get to a clinic that will treat you), but I think you need stitches.

If nothing else is possible, clean it well with disinfectant, and use adhesive bandaids running across the cut to hold it closed, and wrap it with clean bandages.

(that's what I do if I can't get to a doctor right away).

Can you get to an emergency room in another town?
The bill would be sent to my parents, I don't think it's fatal anyway. Just want to prevent infection

No bandages but cleaned it with soap, it doesn't feel painful at all, my body is numb, everything is far away like I'm watching myself on TV. It might not hurt if I used the bottle on my neck

Is it normal for you to feel disconnected like this? If not, this might be mild shock.

Is there someone safe you can contact?

Your doctor would not be able to tell your dad because that's a violation of patient privacy.

I urge you to go to an urgent care clinic if at all possible. A wound like that could turn bad quickly.

Did the dissociation start after the injury occurred?
Did this happen today?

Are you doing okay? I still think you need to get to an emergency room. If you are feeling dissociated and don't have anyone you can trust that can drive you there, call 911.

If you absolutely are not able to seek medical help, then if you can get to a drug store/chemist, try to find some Steri strips to hold the wound closed. This will help the wound heal without a giant gash and also help to limit germs from getting in. Clean the wound as best you can before you use the Steri strips. What Are Steri-Strips & Butterfly Bandages?

Sorry you are having to go through this.

If your doctor is a family friend, surely money would not be something that would prevent treatment?

You shouldn't have to put up with that. Your dad swinging a beer bottle at you is clear-cut abuse. He could end up injuring you more seriously if you don't get someone to intervene. You also don't want to get an infection, which could kill you if not treated promptly. Therefore, I strongly urge you to have someone look at it (urgent care ideally) or tell someone about it (such as a nurse line or calling the police).

I agree with others: ER or doctor and a contact with a police and/or social services. Even if your father is fine for 99% of time, that 1% is still too much, especially if it wasn't the only time something like that happened.

About your description of the wound:

It would help to have a photo.

I have had couple times wounds that have been open and developed a whitish film-like layer on the wound.

It was better not to keep (regular) bandage over it, except at nights when I couldn't be careful with it. The bandage just kept it moist, made it fester, and slowed down the healing. Without a bandage it dried and resembled a crust. Wounds healed, but left visible scars as they had to grow a new skin on a flesh that didn't have any skin on it before.

On a positive side, things are probably fine if the wound and its area don't feel hot, have a red / purple color on the skin around it, ooze any ugly juice, and / or don't smell bad.

But still: At least the ER or a doctor whenever something like that happens.

From what you wrote I can imagine that a white layer is a fat tissue or even exposed muscle/tendon. Not sure about brown stuff... Twitching means that there is some nerve/muscle involvement.

This is not a simple cut, it seems to involve muscle and nerves, and because it came from glass, there's a high risk of infection (including tetanus if you're not vaccinated).

Just go to ER. Tell them your parents wouldn't bring you. They will look at it. I was desperate, l had a bad cut from a kitchen knife. I put super glue on it. I had to re-apply several times, it finally stayed closed and heal, but it seemed like it was at least three weeks. They do sell things to help at drug store, can you go there and check? In my case, l didn't want to go to ER. I was very stressed at the time.
