No rain

I'm slightly upset at the meteorologists. They promised rain for today, and instead it's hot and stuffy 😝

But seriously now.
Before coming to realise that I'm autistic, I used to think that I was just a wimp that likes to complain about things like hot weather.
Heat and the very bright summer days really make me uncomfortable. I'm the person who wears sun-glasses in winter 🙈 who eats cold food because warm food is unpleasant, and feels upset because the weather guys got it wrong.

And yes... I know they don't control the weather. But if they are so bad at guessing, them maybe they shouldn't say anything, instead of getting my hopes up.

I'm feeling cranky and sour today.

I want rain!

My Mama and I both like going outside on the porch and watching the rain so I understand being disappointed when they are wrong.

But seriously.

Weather stations tend to all have thier own predictions for precipitation. They can get the temperature fairly right alot. But a accurate precipitation forecast? NOOOO.

The only one that's been right, more than wrong, is the local forcast off 'The Rock' radio station.

I grok your complaint of meteorology-

Wasn't too thrilled myself when they forecast "breezy" one night, and we got 80mph winds instead!
I was very fortunate, none of the huge trees that went over landed on the shop or barn (with critters inside).

I wonder if they 'read the entrails' correctly when the forecasts are so far off?
I think a movie was made recently regarding an unfortunate weatherman in a bad situation?

Given my own lack of knowledge in this field, there are surprises in store as well.
Like the time camping in southern Utah, going to sleep with a star-filled sky. Waking up three hours later
with water cascading into, as well as flowing through my little tent, and strobe lightning. Had to cover my
nose so not to inhale water!

Hope you feel better soon and have a beautiful day tomorrow.

The worst part is that the heat keeps going. It's past midnight, and I have to have a desk fan working, pointed right at me.

I think I might melt! 🙈

It appears that it finally did rain on Rain Day!

Summer is the devil, lol. I am averse to exposed skin, so I'm covered even in 100 degree Fahrenheit heat. Can't wait for fall to come.

We typically go 6 months without a drop of the stuff. Around October I start getting desperate. I hear there could be a thunderstorm in the mountains and I'll drive hours to catch it.

I'm sure I would miss the rain if I lived in a warmer climate, but I don't 😁.
When I've been on foreign holidays it's always warmer climates, when you go away for a holiday do you pick cooler wetter ones?

I found there are more accurate websites than others in terms of weather prediction. It's no simple task to check the weather when my browser is too slow, so to have it tell me the wrong thing is annoying. I also check per each hour to know when and what amount of rain is expected but reports could change in time and necessitate re-checking as the hour is approaching.

Then again like most science, but maybe even more in this case, it's not always accurate but it's the only compass we have (apart from maybe the instinct of Togo, the legend sleigh dog of the real story of the 1925 Serum run to Nome, when he turned back like no other time when the weather was truly going to be bad, animals can tell the weather).

Reading these sort of threads is quite strange for me. Here we typically get 100F temperatures in summer and over 6 inches of rain a month. (It’s difficult to get accurate figures because most websites are well out of date. 2024 has been an extraordinarily hot year, globally. In addition, Australia is heavily influenced by ocean surface temperatures in the southern Pacific - what is known to almost everyone here as the seesaw between El Niño and La Niña. To add to the confusion we have to watch the Indian Ocean Oscillation.) Winter hovers around 60-70F and is dry. (The thermometer in my house has not dropped below 19C (~66F) this winter - I have extra insulation in the roof.)

Summers can be a bit trying 35C (95F) and 85-90% relative humidity *at midnight*!

You are welcome to visit. ;)

I have worked in climate change-related research for several years. We have a variety of global climate models (depending on anticipated emissions trajectories) with a further variety of regional downscaling models. We can get reasonable projections of what the *climate* is likely to be out to end-of-century. There is a range in the predictions. Our research then tries to account for this range to give “envelope” predictions of conditions and appropriate responses.

Weather, day-to-day, is another business entirely. In Australia, on the east coast, we get reasonably accurate predictions about 4-5 days ahead, This is about how long it takes to get weather from where it was measured on the west coast to when it impacts the east coast, mixing in the influences from the south-east up the coast from the great southern ocean. Temperature predictions are generally not too bad. Precipitation is another problem again, influenced by micro-climate and topological factors. I would not take a job as a weather forecaster if you paid me!
