Not QUITE an Obsession, But....

So, I'm really into pencil and paper Role Playing Games. Things like D&D and Pathfinder. Recently, I decided to try to create my own, based on the d20 system. I've made sooooo much progress. Like the title says, it's not quite an obsession, but I'm really getting into it!

The game itself is set in a near-future setting. As such, it's based more around ranged combat, although melee is still present. Each weapon has an Optimum Range and a Maximum Range, represented as Minimum/Optimum/Maximum in yards. Borrowing fron D&D 5e, different ranges give Advantage/Disadantage (roll 2d20 and take the highest/lowest respectively). Shooting at a target between Minimum and Optimum ranges rolls ass regular. Shooting below Minimum Range, or between Optimum and Maximum, causes Disadvantage. Weapons can not fire farther than Maximum Range. Example:

An M1911A3 has a range of 5/25/40. This means that it can fire up to 40 yards, but you should try to fire in the 5-25 yard range.

It's a lot more complex than that, but I don't want to bore anyone. If anyone's interested, I can post more details :)

Sound exciting. I never got a chance to play any modern RPG games. Though I just bought a gaming laptop a few weeks ago. I see what interest me when I have the time. Most RPG games I played in my life was for SNES.

I LOVED playing D&D! I'm hoping to get a few people up so I can run a campaign I've been working off and on for the past few years. But I'm picky about it being v3.5 with elements of the previous versions, I was not impressed with 4.0 and I haven't seen the newer stuff yet.

You enter a dark cavern, by the light from the entranceway you see blood smears on the walls and bones strewn around. This is not a good place to be.

What do you do know ?

You roll 12 and venture further in. A large Grue leaps from the shadows and tears you to pieces. You are now dead.

sounds fun :) i do play lots of table top, the shear number of table top games in my apt is insane, the biggest thing to test out is how easily the game can be broken, and or the balance done, it sounds interesting so far through, although very gun knowledge heavy which may off put some. but hey you cant appeal to everyone :)

Bah, 12! That number PLAGUED one of my characters. I had to rewrite half his character bio because for whatever vile reason he got 12s on all his checks! Except for water. I consistently rolled a 1 when that dang paladin got near water. His future was pretty bleak, what with being mediocre at everything and terrified of puddles.

I never got too big into the table top scene, but the few times I did play I enjoyed it. I'm much more of a pc gamer, I've played most of the D&D titles out there and my current obsession is Neverwinter.
