Obsessively gaming in my spare time these days.

Video game and movie addict. All for gay pride.

It could be worse, I assume. I actually am having tons of fun with this, and I have yet to sacrifice social time, work time or gym time for this.

The issue is dealing with people around me who claim I am pissing my life away on video games. I enjoy games that have a good story, so when I find one, I tend to binge the hell out of it. I am doing everything right - taking a 10 minute break to walk around every hour, drinking tap water and having healthy veggie snacks instead of beer and chips, keeping in touch with my RL friends and not neglecting them for the games.

A part of me wants to call them out for their binge Netflixing habits whenever they do that, but seriously, that would put me on their level.

I don't see anything wrong with doing what you love.

I spend all of my spare time making music and art, or on other creative endeavors. If anyone has a problem with it, I'll direct them to the nearest mirror and just compare it to their vices. Likewise, when someone tells me, "It's better than gaming!", I reassure them that I'm just as selfish as the next human, doing what I love. They're all the same, and everything we sink our time into is technically work, which is just our own particular flavor of suffering.

Most of the people who have an issue with other peoples' habits just feel out of control of their own lives and wish to take it out on others. It's really sad that they exist, but they do.

That is great. You aren't doing anything bad. You aren't robbing banks, drag racing on the bridge(just happened close to where l live). You aren't creating and using counterfeit credit cards. What's not to like?

I'll be honest here, this is exactly what I'd do in this situation, and in fact what I have done many times.

This always bugs the heck outta me. People whine at you because you do hobby/interest X, which is something they dont understand and because of that they think it is somehow mindless, but they'll then sit on their butts and watch TV for 5 hours straight, an "activity" that doesnt even involve interaction or moving or thinking or... yeah. And that's somehow acceptable. Makes no sense. Even moreso considering what modern TV is often like.

I have family members who used to give me this one. And I gotta say: It's so bloody satisfying sometimes, to see them now glued to their stupid phones all day (Facebook, of course, because what else would it be?). I ended up being the only one in the family who doesnt have a phone stapled to their face.

Anyway, dont let them rag on you because you have a hobby they cant grasp. Call them out if you'd like, it sounds like they could do with being knocked down a peg or twelve, or just ignore them entirely and dont allow them to push you around.

Escapism is great, and if it helps you deal with your inner turmoil at the moment, more power to you. You have to do what works for you, not what works for someone else.

Just out of curiosity, what are you playing at the moment?

Elder Scrolls Online on the Xbox One, Scarlet Nexus on the Xbox One, and Akiba's Trip on the PS4.
