Hai everyone!

I've been looking for a place to talk about ASD-related issues, without the drama of people either thinking that being Aspie = ubermensch or NT = evil, and this forum seems to be a good place. I find those ideas pretty immature and stupid, really. So I thought I'd join up.

I'm from the land down under, and I like it here. I'm a bit of an interesting mixed fruitcake, in that aside from being on the spectrum, I also have schizoaffective disorder (bipolar type) and social anxiety. I guess I'm what a health professional would call a "high functioning" person, in that I'm able to work, study, look after myself and generally avoid being taken to the hospital (although I've come close).

I'm a music journalist, so I review CDs, live gigs and music festivals for a website. I also photograph live music events, and I've photographed a lot of national and international artists. It's a fun job, although it doesn't pay too well so I'm looking at other options. I was studying for a Master of Social Work but that didn't work out as planned (ASD issues partly played its part - turns out it's hard to counsel people when you can't really work out their body language or pick up emotional cues, or as my supervisor put it, "tries to read people but often gets it wrong"), so I'm now either looking into another graduate course, or going back into full-time employment. Not sure yet - I'm waiting to hear back on my uni applications and I have an appointment with a job agency next week. We'll see how that goes.

I'm a bit of a musician and one of my obsessions is the guitar. I'm not a shredder by any means, but I enjoy playing, looking and generally talking about the instrument. My pride and joy at present is a 1966 Fender Mustang. I also play Godins. Aside from playing guitar, I also play the bass, drums and keyboards, with the piano being my first instrument.

I've had some rather...interesting obsessions over my life. My main obsession has been with a certain actor and that obsession has lasted nearly 20 years. I think I've watched almost all of his movies, and I used to rewind and pause his scenes so I could note down every gesture and movement. Once Google came along, I had a ball! I also used to have an obsession with horse racing as a child and would be drawing horses all the time, looking at form guides, watching old horse racing documentaries, reading books about horse racing, etc. My best effort was getting 6 winners out of an 8-race card. Then there was Transformers and one particular character - Dirge. Oh, and Metallica. Needless to say, yes, I did get teased quite a bit during school...

Now, I really love listening to Jethro Tull. I was really excited when I finally got my hands on the copy of the LP version of Thick As A Brick. Jethro Tull fans might also recognise my handle.

Anyways, enough babbling from me!
