One of my denture anchors failed

oregano

when all else fails...
V.I.P Member
Starting around the beginning of November I noticed that one of my denture anchors would hurt whenever I chewed in that area with my dentures. After hydrogen peroxide based mouthwash failed to solve the problem, I had to go down to Sacramento for an exam. The dentist said that the painful anchor had become "detached from the bone" and would have to be removed. So I have to see the oral surgeon on 22 December to have the anchor removed and a bone graft stuffed into the remaining hole. I am home right now but I have to be careful about chewing until I can get the anchor removed. The dentist really didn't think I was at fault per se, apparently stuff like this happens to new denture patients from time to time. So yeah, sort of bummed that I will have to spend Christmas in Sacramento. I won't be able to have a Christmas dinner either since my mouth will be so messed up.

That's awful and bad timing! You'll have to settle for soups, soft foods and focused chewing on one side of your mouth till you can get it fixed. I had a similar experience when I had a root canal on one of my molars. I remember how much I missed eating crunchy things like hard shell tacos or even toast.

Because I didn't know what a denture anchor was:

My mom had canceled my dental insurance as of 1 January as well. Maybe she will call them and tell them she changed her mind.

@tree is the one who always loves researching! When I was a young adult there was no internet, so I spent many hours pawing through historical collections at the California State Library in Sacramento and the City History Room at the old San Francisco Public Library. Soon after I moved away from SF the city spent zillions for a new library building only to have it become a de facto homeless shelter within 10 years of opening.
:(

Nothing like paying a fortune for dental work and it breaks in just a matter of days.

Some of my dental implants are coming lose as bone loss occurs.my wife has never had as much as a cavity, but she is also having bone loss threatening loss of teeth. I think thr root cause is diet not eating food that challenges teeth
use it or lose it.

On the up side, at least not spending Christmas in Stockton!
