Ongoing hearing loss

Hello out there,
New to this forum.
It's said that Aspie's have a different perception of sounds, which I am ready to believe after what people have told me about myself in my career as music producer.
Unfortunately I suffer from ongoing hearing loss, even though I make sure to take care of my ears best I can.
I wonder who in this forum might have similar problems or even might have found ways and means to slow down that process.
My hearing loss is all the worse for me cause it very much affects my job as musician and recording studio person, a job that I deeply love and that I dare say I'm good at.
Though another year or two like the last and I will be without a job at too young an age.

Not liking loud noises or noise in general is a common Aspie complaint, but I don't believe I've heard of hearing loss being associated with Aspergers.

I would think a hearing specialist medical doctor would be the place to go.

People often complain that I'm not listening to them and sometimes even when I'm giving them my full attention I still find myself having to ask them to repeat themselves, sometimes even more than once before I can fully process what's been said. I've been asked to get my hearing checked, but since I'm actually extra sensitive to some sounds that bother me, I think there are other reasons. 1) Certain things go round and round repeatedly in my head which can cause me to not process what people say at all sometimes. 2) Sometimes even when I'm fully concentrating on a person speaking the information still doesn't get fully processed the 1st time due to too much information being received too quickly, the speaker needs to slow down for people who are autistic, especially if there's other distracting sounds too, unfortunately not many people understand this and instead start getting annoyed when I keep asking them to repeat themselves.

I do NOT believe that true hearing loss is commonly related to autism, but appearing to have hearing problems due to issues processing information is quite common. In other words I would expect a similar percentage of people with autism to have actual hearing issues as NTs. Please ensure you have a proper hearing test if you haven't already and explain the possible autistic processing issue so that it can't confuse the issue.

Best of luck and welcome to ASPIESCentral! :)

Personally, I often do not perceive/understand sounds in the 'correct' way. It all sounds distorted. There is nothing wrong with my ears though, I know it is a processing issue.

But if your experience is hearing loss that keeps getting worse, that sounds to me like an ear problem rather than an Aspie problem. I would encourage you to see an audiologist.

Keep taking care of your ears and talk to a doctor, hopefully you will be able to continue doing the job you love.

Also just by the way, I know what it is like to have a dream job become not possible/not healthy for me. It is devastating. But I encourage you to not jump to the conclusion that this will happen to you, just that I'm sure you are scared that will happen to you. Even if it does, you can find something else to be passionate about and good at.

Talk to a doctor, they will probably know of other things you can do to preserve your hearing on top of what you already do, they may find whats wrong and either fix it, or help you hear better even if they can't fix it.

Do you already own noise cancelling headphones ?

If you're getting noticeable hearing loss, I'd echo what others have said here that you should go to have your ears looked at by a specialist. There are a lot of treatments out there for hearing loss and they'll likely be able to find the cause of it in order to treat it properly.
Sound perception can be different for people with sensory issues, but consistent hearing loss is likely something which will require treatment (as opposed to situational hearing loss, such as your ears having a 'shock' after a loud noise).
