Online conversing with a potential date or potential friend

One of the guys on an online dating website, we've been talking, but he's not been very upfront. I don't get a good feel about people that say on their profile they want to totally meet up in-person, but then ignore my question about meeting up completely.

He's in the same town as me, is a teacher, and we both want to get thinner too.

Any thoughts?
