People vs Photos

This may or may not make sense to you

Last night was the second rather informal classic car cruise night of the spring, there were about 25 cars as I arrived (not that many really) and saw at least one interesting car I have not seen before, a few cars that belong to friends of mine... Note: For me a good portion of my summer socializing takes place in the car show scene...

I did spot a (ca. 1980) Chev Malibu station wagon, it left as I chatted with Roland there with his Camaro, so didn't get any photo of it, let alone even a close look... A few spots away I saw the cars that Reid and Shannon own, they both left before I got a chance to even talk with them... Did get some other conversations in, did get some photos but also missed some as I tried to balance photography and people I talked with

Let's just say I could probably circle the parking lot taking photos and not even talk to other people, but then after not seeing the car show over the winter I also want to make those connections too...

I didn't get to take a photo of Shannon's van, just saw her leave, did get a goofy photo of Reid leaving with his custom VW Beetle (below)

Here is a photo of Shannon's van from last summer... It's a nice truck

And hopefully I'll get a chance to see that Malibu station wagon again

Not to get off subject (well maybe below the subject) but your parking lot surface looks different then ours. Is it blacktop or concrete? It looks pebbly like there are stones in it.

Point taken. You've explained yourself. I suspect a number of us have some catching up to do when it comes to how the pandemic has cramped our style for a very long time. ;)

I never thought of that actually, hmmm

Not just pandemic, we had an active classic car scene for most of last summer into the early autumn... But then living in a winter climate, I just don't get to see those people over the cold winter months when the classic cars are in storage, so then you are catching up in the springtime...

Looks like asphalt, a little coarse asphalt.

LOL...good point.

I laugh because essentially the same dynamic applies here in the High Desert as well. When the cold weather and infrequent snow stifles most social events that go crazy in the next few months and last through October. Though granted, your cold weather is extreme compared to ours. ;)

Speaking of which, we go from low 80s to possible snow again at higher elevations in a few days. April.

Though this summer will likely be stifled by something new. Much higher fuel prices.

Seems lighter in color then I am used to. We use mostly a kind of bluish-grey gravel in the asphalt. As a side note in Iceland they mix volcanic rock in which makes it very coarse. The last thing you want to wipe out on and get road rash.

Have to explain I am a rock, dirt and plant person. Always wandering around looking at the ground. :D

It looks like the asphalt on the road here, that's light grey because it's old. But it could be something else.

I filled up the car a few days ago, $13,50 for one gallon. :eek:The prices are unusually high now and they say it will get worse. I looked at the counter on the gas pump as I filled the tank and thought "oh no....oh no...oh no...oh no!!"

Yep, sounds about right for Europe. Hopefully the US will be at least exporting LNG to Europe in large amounts soon. Locally we're at $5.00 a gallon, though it's been steady since the war broke out.

In my part of the world most outdoor events get stuffed into four or five months of the year, because of the winter weather issue

Sherlock77, one of my interests is collecting toy soldiers and when I would go to flea markets or shows I always tried to get there as early as possible and priority one was making a fast sweep of the entire place to look for rare finds or bargains. Once that was done I would then circulate more slowly and chat with dealers, some of which I got to know. Maybe you could make a first fast pass getting your pictures and then stop to talk with folks later.

Brutal summers too! Went to Calgary and Banff back in 1974. Always recalled the heat and mosquitoes near Fort McLeod.

Ironic though as I was raised in Virginia. Hot, enormously humid summers and lots of snow in winter.

Talking about weather... Today in Calgary, that is snow, but it didn't stick around for long...

April? Really? From the weather of the past two weeks, it seems like March.

That's the way it is this time of year. When it can get really nice and then turn nasty on a dime. When you can't entirely rule out snow until after May.

A gallon in England average £7
