Please help for research

Sorry, having trouble attaching the link. Will try again.

Also, very good point about writing own questions. Definitely a lot could be learned . Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The word Autism covers a pretty broad spectrum, what area are you interested in?

All you need to do is write (or copy/paste) the web address in to your post but without any commas or full stops immediately adjacent to it. The scripting of this forum will automatically parse it in to a clickable link for you.

More that likely one of the moderators here will check out your survey and if they think it might be inappropriate or if it appears to breach identity/privacy concerns they'll delete your link again.

And a good area to study that not too many people want to tackle is how to help autistic adults remain in the workforce. I believe one of the most important factors in this issue is this:

@research

I'm hoping what you're working on will be interesting, and I know the scale has to be limited, so my expectations are reasonable.
But since you've asked for us to ask our own questions, here are some thoughts for you to consider ...

Most of the research requests we see here are for (to me) obviously useless things. This is partly due to the need for small-scale, relatively brief projects, but I keep hoping for "less useless" topics all the same.

I'm still waiting for "science" to do something about identifying the underlying nature of ASD as presented by HFA's . Two obvious examples:
1. What is it that more-or-less all HFAs have in common that differs measurably from NTs (except for (2) of course)?
We definitely think differently, but I've never met anyone I could discuss this with. It seems to be impossible to explain it to NTs.
(BTW if I sat down with @Outdated in a pub in Adelaide I think we could discuss this topic, but he's the only person I've said that about in my life :)
2. Why do "Aspies" have no significant verbal deficiencies (and can develop their verbal skills to NT levels if they try), but still have issues with non-verbal and indirect-verbal communication? Clearly we understand what inter-personal communication is from an early age.

The usual "symptom-cluster centric" definitions and diagnostic methods are nearly useless to HFAs.

And while it's nice to see improved awareness and small steps are being made to help younger ASDs accommodate themselves to the NT world, most of the time the programs look more like Conversion Therapy than assistance with our lives.

IMO if you split off "co-morbidities", there's a core set of Aspie traits that can be helped without being "treated" in the medical sense.
It could perhaps be compared with women giving birth - it's good to have medical services available in case they're needed, but a typical pregnancy is not an illness, and normal births are best handled by providing assistance to the natural process.

Sex and ethnicity bias in autism assessment instruments ( ADOS - 2 ).
Possible additional unbiased tests as an add on eg. The reading the mind in the eyes test.

Very interesting area for research.
Thank you.
Also, thank you for your help with trying to post the questionaire.

Everything I see about how to help Aspies is about changing us to fit in easier. What I'd like to see is work teaching NTs how to form partnerships with technical experts to provide the social skills needed to make talent useful. Maybe ask John Rollwagen, Seymour Cray's partner. I keep posting ways for companies to save vast sums of money, but a simple technical proof does not get their attention. They need some sort of sales trickery to change their minds.
