A COFFEE morning will see a local MP hear the stories of people with autism.
The ‘I’m One’ event, which will be held on Friday, March 27 will mark World Autism Awareness Week.
The National Autistic Society (NAS) coffee morning will welcome MP Alison Seabeck, who represents, Plymouth Moor View, to speak to people with autism and their families.
Held at Elm Community Centre, Leypark Walk, Estover, the coffee morning will run from 10.30am until 12pm.
Rob de Jong, treasurer of the local NAS said: “Autism is a complex condition which greatly affects people and families, but it is often hidden and parent carers struggle to get their needs met.
“The NAS has been campaigning for people with Autism for many years and is an excellent source of information and support. They recognise that MP’s have influence nationally and can help when it comes to advocating for services and better understanding of autism.”
The NAS is running this campaign called ‘I’m One’ to encourage families to make contact with their local MP as they are “instrumental” in helping affect positive change for people with autism.
Janet Wise, a parent of a child with autism and also Labour’s Plymouth City Council candidate for Moor View Ward, said “March 27 marks the start of World Autism Awareness Week and we are keen to understand the specific issues facing people with autism locally.”
