I wanted to see if this was a thing with others as both myself and my brother (who is also autistic) tend to choke on our drinks, and sometimes food. It's not too often but frequently enough we'll both have the issue of swallowing a drink and some of it going down the wrong way. I find with food as well that I usually swallow it fine but it always seems to stick in my throat like my oesophagus forgot its job part way through and I need a drink to wash it down. It seems we both have iffy swallow reflexes, not bad enough to be a problem but it is an irritant, especially if I have to eat or drink in front of people and i'm anxious about chocking on it. It's really awkward trying to repress a cough while you're trying to eat or drink.
