Postgrad dissertation Study: Volunteers Urgently Needed

Hello everyone!

My name is Lauren, I am a postgraduate student studying a Clinical Applications of Psychology Master’s degree at Kingston University.

I am aiming to complete a study for my dissertation which will observe the perspective taking abilities of children (aged 12-16) with and without Autism Spectrum Disorder. This experiment is designed to increase our knowledge of visual perspective taking processes and to challenge existing literature. This is important as I'm sure you know. By conducting studies such as these we can help improve the knowledge and understanding of clinicians and the general public for those eatimated 1 million people in the UK that live with Autism (Brugha et al (2009).

I hope to gain a few volunteers to take my study.

Process:

Initially you, or your son or daughter, will be asked to complete an IQ test, this will take up to 45 minutes. This is so we can match participants with ASD to other participants with a similar IQ that do not have ASD. An Autism Quotient checklist of traits will also need to be filled in, if your child is under 16 years old you will be asked to fill this in for them. After these are completed, a computer task will be presented that should take no longer than 25 minutes. This can happen on seperate occasions if preferred.

There are no foreseen risks from participations in this study and this study has been reviewed and approved by the Kingston University Research and Ethics Committee.

If you would like to volunteer or volunteer your child please email me at the email address stated below.

Thank you very much for your consideration,

Lauren Campbell-Thompson Email: [email protected]
