Problems in socializing

Hi. I'm having some problems in making friends right now. Yeah, I am getting involved in groups, but I'm often afraid of saying things and I just stay quiet most of the time.

At this point, I've lost many friendships because I was way too trusting with other people and they either didn't like that or tried to manipulate me. I'm frustrated because I often appear to be naive and mentally younger than my body age which makes other people take advantage of me or treat me as a kid.

I'm not entirely sure if this is something many aspies go through. I know that I do and it bothers me a lot. If you had to take care of this issue, how did you handle it?

I know the feeling horribly too well!

I rejoined twitter ( had take the plunge a few year's ago, on an online friend's suggestion), but found it way too overwhelming; made me feel really out there and open, which probably is not like that at all, but sommehow feels more open than facebook, which I love using ( my one is very spiritual and upbuilding and only befriend my sex who are of my faith). I know the rich and famous use facebook, but twitter seems just so, well frightening in contrast.

There is always a sense of: what do I say? So, I tend to feed off others on what they say.

everyone has a different experience, but yeah, i did go through that a lot. i was very gullible when i was younger, mostly because i had problems understanding when someone was being serious. now i have IMMENSE trust issues because of that. mental age is really annoying because you can never truly have a conversation without worrying that everything you say or do might come off as immature. even though you are supposed to attract friends by "being yourself" many of us have actually repelled a lot of people by doing that, due to being "too immature" or "too weird". so a lot of people have missed on some amazing friends :)

I have the same issue. I'm still figuring it all out myself. If you come up with something, please let me know.
