Psychological Help

I am considering going back to get psychological help, my main issue is I live in a small town, and there aren't any that specialize in ASD and it's related issues.

I find it disheartening and don't really feel seen or heard when I have gone to others before, aside from the one who diagnosed me, but like all the others I have had to find a new person every time as they move or stop working with me.

Should I go back as am starting to feel overwhelmed again?

Usually by the time you are asking yourself, “Should I go,” it is time to go. So frustrating to find a good fit though and someone that can help you in the specific ways you need.

Do you think online therapy would work for you? It opens up the options for finding a therapist that is a good fit. It’s understandably not for everyone, though.

Thanks for replying, yeah when the pandemic was going on, I was forced to online sessions, and even if I find human interaction a pain, being in a quiet room, sitting comfortably is still the best for me, over the screen is so much more informal, and works against me feeling heard or seen.

I understand, same here.

Frustrating that it is so hard to find a good match for therapy.

I personally feel too many people listen and don't hear, also it's hard because the ones who are listening aren't normally also ND so they can't relate to our experiences on the same philosophical level.

At least that's how I feel about it.

Agreed. I have a pretty good therapist now, but he is definitely not on the spectrum and understands very little about autism. Fortunately, he is open to learning and understanding through me, but it’s counterproductive for me to be helping him understand autism when he is meant to be helping me. Still, it’s much better than some therapy situations I’ve been in.

I am glad you have someone aside from the forums hearing and actively working to understand you, also think of it this way you helping your therapist now, may help other ND's later through the same person.

Yeah I am going to go back and try again, all I have to lose is time, the most valuable commodity available sigh

I hadn’t thought of it this way. Thank you for saying that.

I hope luck is on your side.
