Putting Autism Sticker on Car.

Saw a news story recently. That a police officer got a sticker made for her sons car. To alert police in case of an accident. I think this is a good idea. Thoughts?

Depends on the nature of the sticker. Was it something like "I am a fellow police officer and the driver is my son?" Or more like "The driver of this car has medical conditions which may need special attention in case of an accident." The first I disapprove of, the second may be a good idea. It was brought up a few weeks ago that we ought to have some sort of "secret" badge or sign so we can identify each other.

This is a great idea. I'm often scared of police interactions, and have been known to freeze when confronted by cops. I'm gonna put a sticker on my car so hopefully interactions go a little more smoothly should I get pulled over again! Now, do I like the idea of everyone who sees me in my car knowing my Dx? Not sure, but I think the benefits outweigh the negatives.

You could also get an autism medical alert wallet card. If they ask for your license you could hand them the medical alert card as well.

Think I'd rather just do the sticker. Most of the time, my hands are shaking too hard to dig my license out of my wallet, before they even come to my window! Best to have the sticker so if I can't say a word when they walk up on me, or follow commands, they know why.

I prefer to keep my diagnosis to myself so would look for something a bit more discreet. I don't need to announce to the world that I have autism, so I wouldn't use a sticker myself. If I were a parent of an autistic child, I'd keep an autism card that I could produce when needed, at my discretion.

They're probably useless. In an emergency, the last place anyone's going to be looking is the windows.

What about a medical alert bracelet? Not all of them are the blatantly obvious metal ones your grandparents have (though maybe that's what you want, too.)

I agree, I'd put the info on the person not the car.

A bumper sticker is often considered a joke or something to get a rise out of someone, or broadcast your beliefs, not too often considered seriously informative. Also who's not to think the sticker might just have been left on the car from the previous owner.

I don't put stickers on my cars. They could be taken 3 ways. Ignored. Or really liked by someone who agrees. Or really disliked by someone who disagrees. I wouldn't want to be bullied on the road by someone who dislikes autistic people. So I wouldn't give them that chance to begin with.
