Do you have any close friends or relatives that really don't understand you?

I think everyone in my family does. Wait, my dad's cousin. She thinks my parents spoiled me and thinks I'm selfish. She thinks they ruined me and I would be a better person if they were better parents. I think she thinks they caused my AS.

Wow, that's insane. :/ Someone should tell her to go take a hike. :)

I think they somewhat understand me. Most of my friends/family know i'm Aspie but I don't think they really understand what that means. They know I don't socialise much and that i'm quiet.

I think it's typical for teenagers to feel not understood by parents.
I think some of my family Ireland doesn't really understand though. They're nice, but _really_ patronising. Not all of them, but a lot.
It's because I only see them around once every 3 months or so and a lot can happen in that gap. I remember not seeing them for 6 months and my confidence and had gone completely down hill, and I just didn't talk as much, and I mean, it's just gone downhill since then and I've been talking to them less and less and they've been patronising me more and more. I get really anxious before meeting them.
My Dad's side... I get along with my cousins(they're only like 11 eldest though), but the aunts and uncles I find a bit in your-face... I mean. IDK. They're always drunk by the time I get down so that might effect my opinion. They're not alcoholics or w.e, it's just custom in my house to drink loads when people are around(like most people). Waaay worse in Ireland... LOL.

It's next to the border and overlaps really.
Donegal is where our house there is though, which is in Southern Ireland.
A lot of my relatives are also in Donegal but have houses elsewhere in Northern Ireland(some live in Scotland or Manchester though).

I'm adopted, and my parents probably didn't know what the **** to make of me. Especially my mom. My dad was at least glad I was smart, but my other issues drove him nuts sometimes. My mom, though, had no earthly idea what to do with me, relied mainly on screaming fits and threats and occasional hair-pulling and the like to keep me from getting into too much trouble or flunking out. I wonder how many times she wished she could have sent me back to the factory for a refund. (A bit of a challenge, since the rules of my state make it hard to even find the factory)

My wife and I are quite a bit alike, and she can pick up on my own feelings better than I can.

I feel like noone really gets me. They always get frustrated at me for the same things. Which can be put purely down to AS. Like Calvert said, they know I have it, but I don't think they really understand what it means :)

Yeah, she is called my grandmother. lolz But seriously most of my close friends have to understand me in a sense or else I ditch them. This one dude that liked me didn't know a thing about me (Asperger's wise).

So I ditched him as boy friend material and looking for something better. ^_~;

I guess accepted is a vague term. I guess I mean people just realise that you have it. Understanding is a different concept. For example, when Willow was diagnosed, I didn't accept it for a while, she'd seemed so normal to me...

Well, nobody I've told seems to doubt the diagnosis. Most, of course, hadn't heard of it before, so that's hardly surprising. 1st I heard of AS was when support worker suggested it to me. Think the first I heard of Autism was a radio show not long before that! Have to say, don't know in what sense you can "accept" something like AS without SOME understanding. It doesn't MEAN anything, otherwise!

My parents misunderstand me a lot and understand me a lot. My bf understands me most of the time and misunderstands me sometimes. My other friends I don't know that well, but I really identify with a lot of them when it comes to one or two things for each of them.
