RESEARCH: SEXUALITY AND AUTISM

Would anyone be interested in the following study?:)

Study Name: Autism and Sexuality

Description: The study is about autism and sexuality. You will be asked questions about your experiences with romantic relationships. The goal of this study is to attempt to dispel the negative stereotype that people on the spectrum do not desire sexual expression and romantic relationships.

Procedure: Participants have the option to conduct the interview in person or online through a skype interview, email interview or text based interview over instant messenger programme.

Eligibility Criteria: Participants must identify themselves as a person on the autism spectrum. All participants must be 16 years and older.

If interested or if you would like to ask further questions about the study please contact Mary Marley [email protected]

Can't you just go through Survey Monkey like the last sex guy? Asking somebody to personally interview with them over their bedroom habits reminds me too much of the horny little twerps I used to have to chase away back when I used chat lines.

I'm a bit in between about this.

I can see the motivation behind this, but the form in which the interview is conducted doesn't come across as actual research and might be construed as someone just wanting to hear about other peoples habits, fantasies and whatever you have.

I'm not going to take this down though; but I do want to point this out

As with every survey or interview; keep in mind the risk of interacting with someone. Especially on more personal matters such as this.

Perhaps the interviewer, will rehash the format, considering it's met with some scepticism by the community at large.

Who are you, what is your full name and title, what group or university do you represent?

I have seen others ask for study participants and they always include all this information. I do not have a good feeling about this.

I see she does offer her name & an email address.
Seems to want forum members to be personal, but she
didn't share anything interesting about herself/motives-----what year is she,
what's her major...

You are right, she does give a name. I did not read carefully enough. I did not see if she identifies with a university or group.

Also, there's the fact that I'm not welcome in this study because my personality is in opposition to the conclusion that is desired. That's no way to do science.

I think you make a very good point. I hadn't thought of that. Thank you.

If the subjects are in the US, I'm not clear on the legality of this [age 16] considering you would be using skype or have them on the phone and it's not completely anonymous.

You don't state who is sponsoring the 'study', what IRB may have reviewed it nor what potential risks there could be to participants.

In short? This seems generally risky and poorly thought out right off.
@MARYCMARLEY1- I'm saying this as a user but I also recognize that this is likely not a reviewed or formally approved study. If it is, you are very likely not operating according to what procedures were approved.

You need to provide more information [the things I stated] before asking people to contact you privately about a study involving personal issues like sex and sexuality. That's pretty much a "no-brainer".

Second time in a week that I've noticed someone posting "research" without reference to the admin guidelines. The next time I find them, I'm adding them to my signature line.

I think caution is a good idea.

Just did some research and there is a similar thread over at WP with the same details & email address.

It appears that the email address is associated with Queens University Belfast so it could be legit, but agree with many of the opinions expressed above about it being too vague.

Anyway, I won't be participating ;)
