RetiredDinner

So to start off, I don't really like introductions. Even with people in real life I want to skip past the politeness and just get to know each other.

I'm RetiredDinner, a username I randomly thought of while making an account here. I don't really like saying personally identifying things online, so don't feel offended if I don't want to answer a question.

I joined because I sometimes need to rant about things, and a lot of those things are things that NT people wouldn't really understand (kinda stereotyping, but I've never met a NT that understood the things I rant about that come from personal experiences).

I'm an agnostic self-proclaimed existentialist, which explains a bunch of my opinions. I used to watch a lot of TV, but I've stopped doing that, since I decided to be the driver of my entertainment instead of the passenger. (or at least the co-pilot ;p)

Not very interesting, just a quick post to put out there that I'm here, and I'm probably here to stay.

Welcome. Can you elaborate on agnostic self-proclaimed existentialist (if you want to) I just want to get a better idea of what you mean. I don't watch much TV either

Yea! for agnostic self-proclaimed existentialism!! My husband is an atheist deist (his explanation of that one is about a half hour long) and I tend to lean toward agnostic pantheism with Quaker leanings so I really appreciate someone describing their philosophical/religious self in a less than common way. My husband and most the people I know do tend to lean toward existentialism. And maybe just to be contrary to everyone I know, I prefer transcendentalism:). Anyhoo, howdy!!!!!

Well, the agnostic part is basically that there might be a higher being that put us on here, but there's no way we can be certain (with proof), for now, so I've decided not to pick one. And I hope that if there is a higher being, it'll forgive me/understand why I did what I did.

The *self-proclaimed* existentialist part is because I haven't read a book about it, thus my view on it might not be what it is in the textbooks. I've only read a bunch articles about it, but it made a lot of sense. Basically, this article sums it up pretty nicely.

I've decided that in this short life, I'm going to live for myself, and for the people whom I truly care about. I try not to follow the crowd, but if the crowd happens to be the direction I want to go in, I'll happily follow it.

I really can't talk about it all that long before I run out of things to say, to be honest. The simple image I have of it right now just makes a lot of sense to me, so I'm fine with it being that way.

That's great and I find it very inspiring. as frustrated as I get with the way my brain works (or doesn't, as the case may feel sometimes), I am confident in accepting my differences but there are days where I get really down about it and feel isolated and lonely. Have you always felt so confident and self assured?

I also feel isolated and lonely quite often. But I try to distance myself from that person when I'm not feeling that way. It's like if every hour you switched between getting kicked on your shins, and being able to relax, and you said "well, I could relax for an hour, but after that I'd have an hour of shinkicking again, so why bother relaxing at all?". You'd just tire yourself out too much, until you forget how to relax.

I was actually severely depressed for a couple of years. I knew what depression was, but I never realized I was depressed until I got out of it. (It wasn't diagnosed, so not sure if people will say I wasn't really depressed, but I'm pretty sure that I was depressed.) And in that time I had a lot of trouble with distancing myself from that depressed side of me for even a minute.

Agnostic here too. Well said.

Welcome RetiredDinner. I went tv free in January 2017! Glad to meet another like minded person ! I must admit though, that I occasionally watch Hulu on my small iPad tablet. Maybe twice a month for a couple of hours. I feel like I am cheating! :). I am also an agnostic leaning more towards aethism. Welcome!
