RIP, Al Matthews

Aliens is one of my favourite movies and he managed to put a smile on my face. :)
The line about the slippers cracks me up as it reminds me of my Dad's words when I used to walk into the kitchen barefoot during winter and be 'dancing' on the cold tiles because of how cold they felt.

May he R.I.P.

I especially enjoyed reading that Al really was a 6-year Marine Corps Vietnam veteran, with 13 combat awards and 2 Purple Hearts. He was the real deal, and managed to project it far into a precarious future as depicted in "Aliens". One of my all-time favorite sci-fi films as well.

Loved his character in Aliens! Especially since it was reality based. Retired in Alicante Spain on the Med. Not too shabby!

That is sad. Like others have said, Aliens is one of my favourite movies and he played a great character in it. According to IMDB he did alot of acting on UK television in the 70s and 80s, even doing a stint in Grange Hill, which was massive in it's heyday.

I just think it's cool when a character actor can be so fondly remembered in a particular role even when it doesn't involve awards or industry notoriety. He so brought the sarge to life.
