RIP: Penny Marshall

Oh, that's unfortunate. Enjoyed parts of Laverne and Shirley. And liked several of the films she directed: Big, Riding in Cars with Boys, A League of Their Own. RIP Penny Marshall.

Diabetes seems to be an occupational hazard among a subset of Hollywood actresses. Mary Tyler Moore, another 70s sitcom legend, was facing a need to amputate her legs, which had become extremely neuropathic, when she died of pneumonia a couple years ago. Halle Berry also has diabetes, and while she is healthy now, she is getting up in age-approaching 50-and she probably knows that diabetes is a progressive illness and that she will eventually end up like Penny and MTM. I wonder if it is due to the relatively unhealthy food served on Hollywood sets and the fact that there is no alternative to the food. This was especially true in the old days, including the 70s, when catering was awarded to the lowest bidder with predictable results.
 
I just watched a good SNL Christmas sketch with her in it. I knew she directed Big but didn't know about Riding In Cars With Boys, I liked that one too.
